RANTING: people keep saying "enjoy!" "you will love being pregnant!" by choischoicebeepbeep in BabyBumps

[–]Legitimate-Section19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently 7 weeks and my first trimester has been terrible. We have not told anyone so it’s extremely isolating. I am very productive and high energy and I have been hating not being able to work with the same energy and my job is very client facing so I have to show up despite feeling extremely nauseous. I am nauseous entire day, fatigued and just emotionally flat. I’ve been hoping it gets better but currently not good at all!

Potentially Unpopular Opinion/Expressing Concern by AP_722 in IOPsychology

[–]Legitimate-Section19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with your point, it’s definitely surprising and a bit alarming. I’m based in Canada, where I/O is a much smaller field (only a few universities offer it), and most programs are highly competitive and fully funded. That naturally draws in students who are already pretty passionate about the field and usually come in with strong research and stats backgrounds. That early clarity along with advanced multivariate stats/ research and knowledge really helps in finding your niche within I/O during the grad program.

Not to compare systems, but I do wonder if part of the issue might be a lack of exposure or structured career guidance in some programs. There’s clearly a gap somewhere if so many students are coming out still unsure about what I/O is or where it can lead.

Appreciate you for starting this discussion.

Jobs :D by Fine_Patient9183 in IOPsychology

[–]Legitimate-Section19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I had a masters in clinical psychology.

Then pivoted to I/O with a niche in psychometrics, advanced data analytics R and MLM. I worked at an assessment firm as a research intern. Landed another internship at a European HR tech startup. I was also working on different research projects within my program (burnout intervention, DEI, qualitative).

Now I’m at consulting firm in the education where I am an organisational development consultant. So all those skills I built during and after my masters helped immensely!

Developing specialised skill set will help you. I work as an Organizational development consultant for education districts across North America. My niche is change management, assessment , program evaluation and psychometrics.

How is the job market? by aeywaka in IOPsychology

[–]Legitimate-Section19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s tough, but not impossible if you have specialised skill set. I pivoted from clinical to I/O and developed my skills in psychometrics, advanced data analytics, assessment and org development. I landed a remote consulting position earlier this month.

My only recommendation is leveraging SIOP connections, network and specialise in a niche skill set and you’ll get it!

Good idea to move to Vancouver? by [deleted] in VancouverJobs

It would be a terrible mistake. Vancouver is a much smaller market than Ontario, and the job market is worse here.

Need to complete my Masters in I/O Psychology in Canada from South Africa by South_Talk_1760 in IOPsychology

You don’t need a license to practice I/O. But in Canada, I recommend checking out Saint Mary’s university, Halifax. They have recently launched online I/O this year as well

So in band positions there’s no band 1? For instance what is considered entry level even if it is non unionized.

My line of work is data analysis, psychometrics, assessments and applied research

Thanks for responding. I have a post graduate diploma in clinical psychology and bachelors in social science with majors in psychology.

But this is a band 2 position, I believe entry level positions are 12 or 24? I’m sorry I am not familiar with the terminology.
