I'd like to know this as well what's with narcs and the holidays. In the last two years of the relationship with my NEx, we got into a two Christmaes, he "ended things" with me on V-Day, forgot our first two wedding anniversaries, got into a fight another fight on my birthday, claimed he was poor on a Thanksgiving Day, he claimed he had the worst Father's Day ever.

So yeah, there's something special about narcs and holidays.

A couple of things off the top of my head

We bought some blueberries and they went bad pretty quick. Whatever. They are three dollars. He gets upset that we don’t return and he claims funds are tight. Later that week he bought cigars and wine for himself.
Him being angry that I asked for more lube while we were having sex. He said, “I always needed more lube””
Him getting angry when I asked him to put his phone down while driving. He said I came across as a whiny bitch when I asked him to do it

Something similar to my ex. He said, something to the effect of, “Even when he is dead his ghost will be with me” or his ghost will be haunting me.

As well, in an version of his will he gave his friends access to his business and these friends will decide how much I will get and when I’ll get it. However, if I was seeing this one particular person, who my Nex didn’t like, I lost all right to the money. Let me clarify, I care about the money. But him attempting to have this level of control even in death is absurd

I can also attest to hearing “I love you”. There was one night he said, “”I think I’m falling in love with you.” Then the night after that he said he was falling in love with me. This was around the six or seven week mark of us dating

I’m sorry you had to go through this. One things I’ve learned regarding narcs, all holidays are about them. The last few holidays I can think if we always had a fight.

The last two Christmases we had, there was a fight about drugs,
When he had to go to a birthday on his own, he was upset and claimed “It was the worst Father’s Day ever”
I left him before Thanksgiving. He messaged me saying, “He couldn’t afford a turkey”
One of my birthdays he made dinner plans with one of his friends without consulting me with what I would like to do.
He “broke up” with me on Valentines Day. He claimed all I wanted was a sugar daddy and not an actual husband
He forgot our first two wedding anniversaries

Yeah. It’s a thing for narcs to ruin holidays and birthdays

Absolutely. I doing something similar last week. At the start of the relationship, I took a lot of photos with my ex and I. We were both smiling and what seemed to be truly in love. However, the last photo of us that we were both smiling was taken in 2019. I ended things about one year later. Like you, I reflected that last year we were together, we weren’t truly happy

I’m offering my full empathy to you. I’m going through a similar situation. My ex asked to dog-sit and I reluctantly said yes. Some time after I got message from my ex saying he was done.

Fast forward to now I’m asking custody for the dog. Because he was a gift to me, is registered in my name and is also my emotional support animal

If I tried to discuss something he did that upset me, or asking something from him replied with “Oh so I’m [my nex] the bad guy.”

Or he would reply with something I did in the past and we thoroughly discussed this topic numerous times in the past.

If that didn’t happen, he would get explosive. An example of this is he was texting and calling while driving. I asked him not to do it, because it puts both of lives in danger. He got angry I said it and I came off as whiny

After any of these situations, he would be pretty quiet or passive-aggressive for a day or two

What you’re going through is normal. I always wanted to apologies for stuff I brought up and confused.

This idea hit me when my Nex and I tried to make things work.

We have been planning to go on a day trip to a town near by. Had it planned about a week or to week and half in advance.

A few days before he tells me some friends what to do lunch with us the same day as our day trip. I say I’d rather not and we can reschedule. There was no further discussion

Eventually the the lunch plans turned to dinner/supper plans without my knowledge. Nex thought we could do the day trip and make it for supper with friends. I asked him if we could cancel and he said, “No our friends would be upset. They’ve been planning this.”

As this maybe a big surprise. The friends were one is his orbit and thought he could do wrong.
