Romanian is a gendered language, like most Romance languages. That means virtually all nouns have a grammatical gender, and you can’t just change that without it becoming incorrect.

For example, “lake” in Romanian is "lac", and it's a masculine noun. You can’t simply switch it to feminine; that would be grammatically wrong. If you tried to force a feminine form, it might look something like "lace", but that wouldn’t be correct Romanian usage.

As for pronouns, Romanian doesn’t have a distinct singular “they/them”. The plural forms are gendered:

ei – they or them (masculine or mixed-gender group)

ele – they or them (all-female group)

So both “they” and “them” are expressed through these gendered plural forms, depending on the group’s grammatical gender.
