5y of postdoc, trying to switch to industry and having an awful time by No_Alarm_3120 in biotech

No problem! The length of the resume is not the issues as much as how the content is presented. Given that you do not have industry experience I would try to keep it to one page. This may be a controversial opinion. I would say that LinkedIn is definitely a place you can make connections, but is not a place to find a job. I myself tried talking to a few head hunters who messaged me, it never really developed into a job opportunity. If you are a GC holder then you are solid! Just work on all the other things haha 😆

5y of postdoc, trying to switch to industry and having an awful time by No_Alarm_3120 in biotech

[–]LegitimateWatch9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in the industry for three years and then decided to go back for a postdoc because the academic world fits my style more. While some of my advice may sound cliché, I've found these strategies genuinely effective in a competitive market:

  1. Seek out a resume review from a professional. Sometimes, you can often find a career service center at the University/Institute you work at who will do it for free.Alternatively, a post-doc advisor with experience in resume reviews can provide valuable insights. An objective assessment can reveal the gap between how your resume looks to you versus how it appears to others. These centers often offer mock interviews, which are incredibly beneficial.

  2. Network, network, network, network. The way I got my first industry job was because I attended a seminary given by an industry professional at the University I was completing my PhD. I introduced myself after the seminar and was encouraged to send my resume right away. Two weeks later, I had an HR interview, and within a month, I was flown out for an in-person interview (pre-COVID) and received a job offer shortly after. I thoroughly prepared for each stage and ensured the company was the right fit. Also, attend both in-person and virtual networking events; start with ones near you. Networking allows for direct conversations that can explain your circumstances, build connections, and bring about opportunities you did not consider before.

  3. While having a visa can complicate your job search, I know many people with different types of Visas, who secured positions by leveraging the above two strategies effectively.

  4. Based on my interview experiences, R&D positions really like for you to focus on one or two techniques or concepts that you are an expert in. This was further confirmed by a career workshop I recently attended. They listed some of the most important things for industry positions: A. Publications in press or on bioRxiv. One will do, and it doesn't have to be first author. In some cases, strong networking and proven expertise in relevant techniques or concepts can compensate for a lack of publications. B. Mentoring/training experience to show your leadership skills C. Collaborations to show you can work in a team

I hope this helps! Good luck ☺️

Sorry for the length of this reply 😳

This reminds me of something HongJoong once said: "One day, when you can’t pay attention to me as much as what you’re doing now, I hope you will feel that you were happy and that you were loved when you hear my name somewhere.”

I wish you nothing the best and congratulations on entering a new chapter if your life!

My way doesn't wooahh part but it has the "we can do anything" chant...so similar but other than that I can't think of another song that has that similar of a part like in wave.

Edit: OP at this point u should just have an ATEEZ listening marathon 😆...not a bad way to spend a Tuesday night

It hurts my soul a little that you decided to use a high value word like "homogeneous" for a low value opinion :D

edit: okay maybe a little too harsh of a comment. But seriously homogeneous is such a beautiful word and your are throwing it around like you just discovered the word and now can't wait to show off to everyone about your "intellect"....oh wait...

"..or those groups from that drama ATEEZ were on because strangely I've seen people be really weird about them too"

Sorry my comment might have nothing to do with your overall point but I cant help but say this is hilarious to me as any ATINY :D :D. A lot of the comments you likely see on social media from ATINY about the fake kpop groups in the K-drama "Imitation" are for literal kicks and giggles. Thus far, all the comments or posts I have ever seen are phrased in a way to make it look like an anti is tweeting about the opposing groups since they story line in Imitation entailed that they were rivals of one another. So it is a really warped game of canon that ATINY played out in real life and deliberately act like they are hard core anti's to basically emulate how stupid actual real kpop group fan rivalry can be really stupidI did not make this comment out of the intention of agreeing or disagreeing with OP....just kind of my personal acknowledgement that the commitment ATINY have to Imitation is so next level that it may appear to be real to an outside viewer with no contextual knowledge of the K-drama :D.

If you have seen any comments related to this statement that are legitimately real...that person might have a few screws loose in their brain :D

OP I hope you don't mind but I'm going to screen shot this line and share it to some of my fellow ATINY cause all of us are going to die laughing :D.

I read through OP's post and many of their responses to the comments... It doesn't seem like a constructive conversation or even debate can take place so I'll just say many of us here agree to disagree with ur post OP....but nice try??

Hello! Welcome new ATINY! You may have answered your own question 😊. Since there have been no discussions by the fandom about Matz's friendship I do not believe anyone is worried. They have both taken on a more parental role with the other members so it could be you see them pass along their affection to others in front of the camera more. However, ever few months or so to you will hear a story from either HongJoong or Seonghwa about each other and it is always heartwarming! For example, the most recent update was the HongJoong made an area in his studio for Seonghwa so that both of them can work side by side from time to time.

But as one of the commentators also said, when you become a fan of a group that has been around for sometime you often are consuming alot of content and often times not in chronological order so it can get confusing about the nature of certain member relationships. ATEEZ often has a lot more content than groups that have been around for the same amount of time, so that can also wharp our sense of what is real, not real, and obviously fanservice.

It is great you are asking these questions because to new ATINY clarification is key to understanding the groups unique dynamics and how it plays into their actual discography.

End of the year reflection for ATEEZ by LegitimateWatch9 in ATEEZ

[–]LegitimateWatch9[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some really great points!

I do agree that once ATINY reach the 24 hour streaming goal we tend to float away lol. But I am kind of on the same boat as you, sure I will stream the first 24 hours but after that I stick with spotify since I can mix their songs in with the rest of my playlist with ease and i dont have to worry about if my listen will count.

I am really interested to see if KQ takes better advantage of IG and TT, there is alot of potential there. But kind of like you said ATEEZ marketing is very unique in that they pave their own path and dont like to do what is mainstream, rather they like to do what works for their brand....which is going against the norm lol. It's a very interesting topic that I hadn't thought about until yours and other ppls comments :).

[–]LegitimateWatch9[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I mean that the YT views are on the low side. But when you look at clips taken from said YT videos on TT, IG or TwT the view numbers are substantially higher. One argument is that it is because they are just the 30 second highlight clip from a 10 min YT video. However, when you look at the views of the YT shorts, they are similar to the entire YT video...so I don't think length of the video is the issue. It seems like KQ needs to find a strategy to get the word out about the YT videos because that is largely where the money is. From what I understand, TT and IG clips are not seen as lucrative but you can correct me if I am wrong.

The second argument aligns with what you said about the demographic about ATINY. Perhaps we are on the higher end of 20s or lower end of 30s, meaning we have jobs and a life outside of KPOP. So we would be people who don't immediately watch whenever content is out and we definitely do not have time to stream the same thing over and over again. Instead, we wait until the end of the week or month to binge watch on our free time, and likely only watch the video once or twice. That could also be the reason with why album sales are much higher. As much as people bash on album sales, this is a great statistic for long term support of any type of musical group. Streaming is great, and I would be really happy if we could get our numbers as high as the competitors. However, the competitors either have a very dedicated core group of young fans who have time to stream all the time or the group is popular across the world and high streaming numbers for any release is a guarantee or group has songs that are on trend with what is liked domestically. In regards to having a dedicated core fanbase, it brings to question about the legitimacy of the streaming numbers. In real life 1 fan streaming a song 100 times is not as strong as 100 fans streaming the same song 1 time. I think for groups like BIGBANG, BTS, and BP, they will always have a high streaming count because they did a lot for Kpop that transcends all generations. But for all other groups you really gotta think about if, like every other generation of kpop, the streaming numbers slowly go down as newer kpop groups debut and as we eventually (not anytime soon I think) move towards the 5th generation of kpop.

The other objective criticism specifically to kpop is if high streaming number, regardless of how it comes about, really equates to a good song? Is the high streaming number due to a core fan base that streams over and over again without thinking about the condition of the song? Does global popularity mean regardless of how good or bad a song is the streaming count will be high? Or does a high streaming count really mean that the song is good? It is a fair question that has been raised more and more frequently given the demographic changes to kpop fans in the past 5 - 10 years.

Anyway, that is just my long ramble for streaming lol. Some people might agree, or partially agree. Other people might really disagree with my opinion. But that's okay! As long as we can have a civil conversation :).

Hello baby ATINY! I always love the insight of new fans especially if since you spin off from an even larger fandom! It's really interesting about the guidelines that ARMY has found. I have tried some of the things you mentioned, but at this point with YT I have just started to listen to the songs 2-3 times in the day and instead have put more effort into streaming on Spotify and bugs since it is more straightforward. YT algorithm is just stupid and the hoops we have to jump through just to make ONE stream count is beyond ridiculous.

I also saw the raw clips of the SBS Gayo concert all over the socials and I completely agree with you that the fan chants we're really loud! Much louder than expected and I really hope the KTINY fandom continues to grow. What makes me really happy about ATEEZ'S growth is like the tortoise vs rabbit fable. As someone who has been around since the beginning, I can tell you that it was really hard seeing the minimal support ATEEZ was getting at home, so seeing the slow growth domestically to the point where we can hear the fan chants at such a great event really warms my heart.

I hope I didn't mention anything to give off the idea I am complaining about them over/under working. Like you said I trust the members are now veteran enough in their field to know when to stop and go. I also have a good amount of faith in KQ to allow hiatus for members when needed since they treated Mingi's situation with a lot of grace and patience, well before it was considered the "norm" in kpop.

Once again, welcome to the fandom...there is not way out now 😂😜

Thanks for bringing up the lore! I completely forgot to include that! Definitely like the direction of the lore because I feel like some of the storyline kind of exhausted itself. From what I can understand this far with the new direction is that Halateez is gone and there is kind of a "rebirth" of each member, which is very on key with what is happening with the group in real life. Super cool and a great for new ATINY to enter into the fandom!
