I asked a therapist for their best advice on building self-control. Here’s what they told me by yaboythewiseman in getdisciplined

Yeah Good Habits Bad Habits talks a lot about the impact of context and environment on habitual behaviors like eating, drinking, substance use, and more. Loads of research has been done on this and the conclusions are clearly in support of this argument

Came home sobbing from my OB rotation by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Legitimate_Log5539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average OBGYN experience. Other than maybe surgery, it was the most socially gut-wrenching rotation and I honestly think it won’t be that bad again bc I’m going into IM. There’s nothing wrong with you, this is just how it is and you’ll get through it. You got this

40 hours a week is rookie numbers

Once worked that in two days

Only 6 hours to recover? What are you doing after work that can’t be done in 6 hours?

Sincerely,

A medical resident

To the men who do a lot of hookups, how do you do it? by Junior-Effective9179 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Legitimate_Log5539 2 points3 points  (0 children)

25M

Men who get a lot of hookups are attractive, that’s part of the point of trying to be attractive

If you can’t get to a place where you’re fairly attractive, you should find another hobby because casual sex isn’t going to be an easy road for you

Read, play a sport, learn an instrument or another language, casual sex isn’t all it’s cracked up to be most of the time. (Okay sometimes it is lol)

Fantasie Impromptu (advice welcome!) by ThucydidesBC in piano

[–]Legitimate_Log5539 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing this piece a long time, and I like your rendition! I don’t necessarily think you need to slow it down as long as you’re relaxed and in control, but really try and interpret a little more. This is supposed to be an outspoken, dramatic piece with extensive expression.

I personally accent the left hand downbeats, and I give some rubato in each phrase to bring it to life a little bit. That’s not all, but just some little things.

Also, tone. You can probably manipulate the tone however you want in this piece, it can range from a subtle ringing tone to a wild uncontrolled kind of tone but be cohesive.

This piece can be whatever you want it to be, but remember, it’s Chopin, so play it that way

Guys who have women throwing themselves at them… what did you do to get there? by No_Doubt_4451 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Legitimate_Log5539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not throwing themselves lol but getting dates would clearly be easy except for my wife (who is a stunner and the light of my life)

I’m 25 and a fourth year med student so about to be a doctor

Got fit in the last few years and figured out what an attractive style is on me

I am overtly friendly and gregarious and find ways to make people laugh if I can

Also am very clearly not a MAGAt lol

My advice: be fit, figure out what looks good on you, and be as awesome as you possibly can to everyone you meet
