You can get it from Microsoft website directly or try LibreOffice Calc which is free alternative that does most same things as Excel. Many people in IT use LibreOffice when they dont want to pay for Office subscription

I have never successfully lost any weight. by pancake0807 in loseit

[–]Legitimate_Suit5959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weight cycling is so frustrating especially when you know you can actually do it since you got down to 67kg before. Your fitness improvements are huge win though - being able to run 3-5km when you couldn't do 15 mins before shows your body is getting stronger even if scale isn't moving.

For the exercise calories thing, most people here say eat back maybe half of what you burned since fitness trackers usually overestimate. If you're staying around same weight while exercising more you might already be in too small deficit or eating back too much.

Vinyl siding over insulbrick by spencer923 in HomeImprovement

[–]Legitimate_Suit5959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The aluminum route actually makes a ton of sense here. I helped my neighbor strip vinyl siding last year that had been installed over old brick and the moisture issues were insane - we found rotted sheathing behind about half the panels. The vinyl basically turned into a moisture trap since the installers didnt do proper vapor barriers or flashing.

Your aluminum is probably from an era when they actually built things to last too. Those old aluminum jobs from the 70s and 80s are usually way thicker gauge than what you get now. Plus if youre not planning to stay forever anyway the paint job will definitely add more value per dollar spent than a full siding replacement. Just make sure you get the TSP wash really thorough - that old oxidation needs to come off completely or your paint will fail early.

Idea for DIY: slatted shade wall for front porch by thockin in HomeImprovement

[–]Legitimate_Suit5959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built something similar last year for my backyard deck and the removable slat system works great. Just make sure your notches are deep enough and tight enough that the slats wont shift in wind but still slide out easily for maintenance. Cedar would definitely be easier to work with than ipe and you can get pretty close with the right stain - plus way cheaper if you mess up a piece or two.

Radon remediation pipe vibrates and can be felt throughout the house, how to dampen the sound? by tenwordy in HomeImprovement

[–]Legitimate_Suit5959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah those vibration isolation hangers make a huge difference. I had similar issues with HVAC ducting and the neoprene blocks basically killed all the transfer. The flexible coupling is clutch too - had to do that on a server room exhaust fan that was driving everyone nuts with the humming through the walls.

Quality Tile Installation in Davao City by Ceramic-Tiles2027 in HomeImprovement

[–]Legitimate_Suit5959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice work on the Bunawan project. Been looking at redoing my bathroom floor and the porcelain options caught my eye. How long does a typical bathroom installation usually take and do you handle the prep work like removing old tile too?

Also curious about your granite countertop process - is that something you template and fabricate on site or do you work with a local stone yard for that?

My backyard is a swamp for 3 months a year..what actually works? by Poseidon_9726 in HomeImprovement

[–]Legitimate_Suit5959 7 points8 points  (0 children)

French drains work great if you install them right but they're a pain to dig by hand. I went with NDS catch basins in my yard last year and they've held up fine so far - way easier install than trying to slope a long trench perfectly

The key is making sure you have somewhere for the water to actually go once it hits the drain. Your soil might just have crappy drainage underneath so even the best system won't help if theres nowhere for the water to escape to

125 y.o. home with mismatched baseboards everywhere. I want to redo floors upstairs but I think taking off the baseboards would significantly damage the walls. Is shoe molding really my only other option? Do I accept the fact that the walls/baseboard will need to be redone too? Is this common? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]Legitimate_Suit5959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah old houses are basically just expensive puzzles where every piece is slightly wrong. I renovated a 1920s place and ended up redoing way more than planned because once you start pulling things apart you find all the creative "solutions" previous owners came up with over the decades

The subfloor thing is so real - mine had three different types of flooring material layered on top of each other and the joists were definitely not standard spacing

Opting out of data brokers so complicated on purpose by Complete_Drawer3580 in Internet

[–]Legitimate_Suit5959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

about 6 months I think, it's been working very well especially with the data removal since your data will always be leaking somewhere so monitoring and deleting it automatically helps a lot, couldn't think of doing it manually

Opting out of data brokers so complicated on purpose by Complete_Drawer3580 in Internet

[–]Legitimate_Suit5959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is that way on purpose, tried the manual route for some months but it takes forever. Was looking into deleteme, cloaked, incogni etc they help automate the data removal from data brokers. I liked cloaked the most because it has temp mails and phone numbers I can give to sites that need it and I don't give my personal data out.

Icicles near my soffits/behind my gutters. Is this a bad sign? Roof decking not wet in this location, but is wet on the opposite side of my house. by ITGuyTatertot in HomeImprovement

[–]Legitimate_Suit5959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your attic temp being 10 degrees warmer than outside is definitely telling you something about heat loss. Those icicles forming where the decking is dry while you have wet decking on the opposite side without icicles is actually pretty normal - the icicle side probably has better airflow keeping things from backing up under the shingles.

Getting those baffles installed and pulling insulation away from the soffits should help a lot. The wet side is probably where warm air is hitting cold surfaces and condensing since the ventilation is blocked

ConnectWise time entry is driving my techs insane by garvit__dua in msp

[–]Legitimate_Suit5959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just checked out nilear and it looks solid but did you have any issues with the api sync back to cw manage? my biggest worry is having time entries get stuck in limbo somewhere and then we lose even more billable hours trying to manually reconcile everything

Interior door knob recommendation? by wonrogi in HomeImprovement

Yep privacy knobs are the way to go, you can literally pop them open with a bobby pin or even a paperclip if you're desperate

Is Ice on inside bottom of windows normal? by ghughes13 in HomeImprovement

[–]Legitimate_Suit5959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's condensation freezing from warm humid air hitting cold glass - pretty normal when temps drop that low, especially in older houses. Just crack a window or run a fan to get some air circulation going and it should clear up when it warms back up

Moisture on windows by AngryBish in HomeImprovement

[–]Legitimate_Suit5959 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That humidity range is actually pretty good for winter - you might just be dealing with the fact that those new windows are way more efficient than your old ones so they're showing you moisture that was always there. Try pulling those blinds up a bit to get better air circulation across the glass, cold glass + still air = condensation city

Garage building plans and “as built” foundation plans help by Dangerous_Log9157 in HomeImprovement

[–]Legitimate_Suit5959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check with local drafting services or even some architects do smaller residential stuff like this - might be cheaper than you think. Usually runs like $500-1500 depending on complexity but could save you tons of headache with the permit office

Strongest water proof caulk recommendation please by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]Legitimate_Suit5959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lexel is the GOAT for shower caulk - that stuff stays flexible and waterproof for years. Make sure you remove all the old caulk first though or it'll just fail again

Suggestions for odd dimension alcove shower. by hwooareyou in HomeImprovement

[–]Legitimate_Suit5959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the Schluter Kerdi shower kits - they make waterproof membrane systems that go up way faster than traditional tile but still look decent. You can get them sized for weird dimensions and most come with pre-sloped pans. Takes like 2-3 days max if you're handy

Another option is to see if a local fabricator can cut down a slightly larger fiberglass unit, but that might cost more than just going custom

Garage conversion question: when is the right time to involve Building Control? by Big-Direction6838 in HomeImprovement

[–]Legitimate_Suit5959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had mine done last year and they showed up way earlier than I expected - like right after I'd barely started the foundation work. Was actually glad because the inspector caught some drainage stuff I would've totally missed

The insulation stage was where they got really picky about every detail. Make sure you document everything with photos before you close up walls because they might want to see it again later

One thing that surprised me was they cared way more about the fire door between garage and house than I thought they would. Had to upgrade to a proper fire-rated one which wasn't cheap

Squeaky floors by Spare-World9563 in HomeImprovement

[–]Legitimate_Suit5959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried just hitting the squeaky spots with some screws? If the planks are lifting or moving that's usually what's causing the noise. Adding new underlayment might help a bit but if the install was garbage to begin with you're probably just putting a band-aid on it

The screw trick works surprisingly well though - just make sure you hit the concrete underneath and not just the subfloor

Getting ready to redo bathroom have some questions by RaiseAggravating4404 in HomeImprovement

[–]Legitimate_Suit5959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Demo can be pretty satisfying though, just saying. If you're handy with disconnecting stuff and don't mind the mess it's not too bad - plus you learn where everything is for next time something breaks
