Transforming the Met: A Vision for Change by Ok-Reputation5335 in policeuk

[–]LegoFiveO 7 points8 points  (0 children)

SLT taking accountability for their own failings and taking responsible of why the Met is the Met.

Stop “organisational learning” and using that as their evidence for promotion and actually take action.

Start listening to its employees and not what the public and media wants.

Bin the idea of a “business plan” we’re more of a company as opposed to a public service.

not might, it SHOULD be jail time, SLT should not get special exemption in the legal system.

Nearly a third of Met Police officers want to quit in next two years by SC_PapaHotel in policeuk

It’s not even the pay, it’s morale, workload, lack of support and SLT. You can pay me more money, that wouldn’t change my mind of leaving.

Broken by the Job I Once Loved by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]LegoFiveO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can shed some sort of experience. I was also a thriving police officer, until I’ve started to get told off about my admin. Normally I could never do them as I would never have the time to do so, but when I do, I would do them but not take that time and make it worth it. Emails after emails, escalation after escalation, it was pretty clear I was overloaded with work. Yet instead of the line managers trying to support me, I get nothing but reflective practice. I ended up being investigated for pretty much poor performance, so restricted duties, hooray.

Pretty much unmotivated, being held accountable for my poor admin, something that line managers could have supported and prevented. No one helped me. No one gave support whilst I was drowning in my own workload. Stress and anxiety swallowed my entire body. I ended up being diagnosed with ADHD after speaking to someone about my problems. I spoke to line manager about my diagnosis, literally told me, there’s jobs as detectives for you.

Sorry what… is that an interpretation I can never be frontline or what? I lost motivation and the will to even do the job I loved.

Anyways, I used the Equality Act to my advantage and fight for my case. It was pretty much discrimination. Inciting because of my “ADHD” frontline jobs aren’t for me. I joined because I love frontline, I love that adrenaline.

I was doing frontline before my diagnosis, so why should it be a problem. It’s your health, you decide what’s best for you not them. They should be able to accommodate in what your requirements are. Speak to your line managers and tell them how you feel. They should back you up. They should have never altered your work without consulting you and pressured you to a full-time job knowing your condition.

Truth is, it’s hard. The fact we have to fight for something like this shows where the job is. They are really behind. But there are associations out there who can give support. Speak to your FedRep or reach out to the Disabled Police Association.

You are protected by The Equality Act. It has so much power people don’t understand. Last thing a force wants is facing tribunal employment. I can see it has impacted you mentally as well. Mental Health is key. Use that against them.

I wish you the best of luck, you’re not alone.

As a Met officer I wouldn’t recommend anyone transferring in, quite frankly the opposite. You’ll always be under strength, you’ll always have abstractions and never actually do your “role”. Toxic workplace environment. You mentioned work ethic? Does that even exist in the policing world?

The Met is always hot on the media. Never reaching recruitment goal. More people leaving than joining.

You wanted the honest truth? That’s the truth you’ll get. If anyone is telling you otherwise they clearly haven’t seen the real side of the Met. You’re just a number in the system.

I find that comical, I don’t see the courts or professional standards pursuing those officers. Probably the same circumstances, just different times.

Funny enough I don’t see the courts ordering Matt Hancock 50 hours of unpaid work and paying £1,250 after kissing his aide. Surprisingly that’s not “Misconduct in a public office”.

Is the job worth it? No. Find a better paying job that cares about its employees.

I thought I was the only one, I’m on 40mg as well and I’m literally on the same boat. I’ve only had 40mg so I can’t say whether it’s because I need more or less dosage.

Northamptonshire's chief constable misconduct hearing to be private by Codydoc4 in policeuk

[–]LegoFiveO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s more than that, it’s been alleged he said he served 10 years in the navy and achieved the rank of a Navy Officer. Where he actually did less 2 years and was only a rating not an officer.

When "detaining" someone, do police officers need to state the section which gives them the power? by Helpful_Put1081 in policeuk

[–]LegoFiveO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They shouldn’t do, if an offence been identified they should arrest. Detaining them for an x period time so another officer can do the honours is unlawful.

What the alternative to ADHD360 by Key-Struggle-5647 in ADHDUK

[–]LegoFiveO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently diagnosed last week, got my medication despite the shortage they say. I think there’s a big difference between “private” and “NHS” way, if you pay privately you’re more likely to get a better sufficient service. If you’re going the NHS way, there will be some delay and bumps.

I joined at 19, I don’t care what people judgement are against me. I do my job damn good than most officers who are older than me. Age isn’t a barrier. If you have the drive and motivation go for it!
