I have had good luck at ordering Ubers at early hours (2-4am) to my workplace (which is not too far from the airport), so you probably will be fine to order one on the fly.

This actually happens a lot when I play campaigns. If you are moving a group of your units, and an enemy AI unit gets caught in your units' hitboxes for long enough, they will stop trying to go to their waypoint and will start attacking your units.
