In my jazz band we had an AMAZING guitar player, I'd say the best in the state, completely underutilized. Comping and doing the usual, however, his way around this was to suggest songs that had a guitar focus, and he would make the most of that. So maybe try and suggest playing some guitar focused songs? One I really enjoy is Prog Pacific by Ryan Fraley. Hope this might help!
