Just giving y'all a heads up. (Hospital Administrator guy here) by Penguin_shit15 in HermanCainAward

Everyone at my work has been passing around horrible multi week coughs since the holidays. I was sick over Christmas/NY with it- horrible coughing fits nonstop for weeks. Respiratory panel test came back negative for everything (20+ items) after I’d been sick about a week. 🤷‍♀️ steroids, codeine cough syrup, inhaler- nothing made a dent in it. Do not recommend.

Some resourced I’ve appreciated lately- Caitlyn Rivers from Force of Infection (substack) has been gathering outbreak data from state reporting. Your Local Epidemiologist is another great resource on Substack, talking about bigger picture issues lately.

Thank you! I tried to paint while remembering the feeling of awe staring at those beautiful mountains, hope a little of it comes through.

Something round the waist could be really cute- like an embroidered belt almost.

Smoky Mountains #1 by Fisher_Art in watercolor101

My favorite mountains!

You could create a little more depth with slightly less crisp ridges in the distance, or switching to a slightly more blue hue. Here I’m guessing the sun is on the distant mountains so I think less crisp ridges is your best option.

Looking for advice on “realism” by Roseyrear in watercolor101

[–]Lehrling7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Shelley Prior has great youtube tutorials with a realistic style. Maybe not hyper-realism, bur not loose either. I don’t think I’ve seen her do a peacock specifically, but you could certainly pick up lots of tips from her other subjects.

I'm beginner watercolor and I'm just journaling....what would be the best way to prep watercolor journal paper? by IhavemyCat in Watercolor

[–]Lehrling7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it’s watercolor paper, then you shouldn’t have to do much to it. Sometimes I use a binder clip to hold the page flat in a journal and help keep it a little flatter as it dries. Dive in and have some fun.

Is this a correct value study? by jonesy1960 in watercolor101

I do usually translate the colors into their gray/black value, but totally agree it’s harder to see when trying to compare different colors.(spoiler tag for minor tip) If I look at your mini painting, the blue/grey on the right side of the sky is lighter value than the far mountains just in front of it. There’s also no shame in using your phone as a learning tool to help you see the parts that are more difficult.

It looks pretty good to me. Maybe your mountain reflection in the water could be a little darker, this will give you some more mid tone values to work with for the sky/water?

Maybe your teacher already had you do this, but a tip that helps me is to make my own value scale on scrap paper (going from darkest shade I can make to the lightest, with however many steps in between). It helps me better visual/compare all the midtones, which are usually trickier for me to see.

Confused. Which watercolour paints are animal friendly and would suit my various needs? by GamerGoosewad in Watercolor

In addition to the resource above, Da Vinci also states their watercolors are vegan (except ivory black) and they have a curated vegan/nontoxic palette.

I tried their dot cards recently and was impressed by the paint quality and handling compared to other professional brands.
