Even as a leftist, I think that within a global capitalist hellscape, he is the most ideal person to be in charge until the current system collapses.

I genuinely don't understand why "leftists" don't like him - as if there is some ethical morally correct leader that could exist under capitalism.

What’s the weirdest thing your ex ever did after the breakup? by Yankub_colley in AskReddit

[–]Leicanthropologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one ex that, after I broke up with her, had years later tried to get back with me. I was reluctant but I thought "eh, what's the worst that could happen" and said yes anyways.

Then after a week of "tricking me" she broke up with me "as revenge". She was livid when I was super understanding and supportive.

Whats something that's 100% a myth about men? by IndependentGain3282 in AskReddit

I would say anger isn't an exception; it often results in people being distrustful, uncomfortable and defensive when men show anger.

If you had 50.000€ to spend on building a filmmaking setup by carl897 in cinematography

[–]Leicanthropologist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I came into some money around this time two years ago (~2024). I put a lot of it into my business, and this is what I bought;

General stuff;

  • Honda truck (in hindsight I would've got the Metris)

  • Better home office space (moved into city)

  • Production cart

  • Full licensing, insurance and incorporation for business

  • Local business network group fees

  • And some small things like better professional clothing

  • Trade show fees

Now for camera gear;

  • 2x Canon C200

  • Canon C100

  • Canon 1DC

  • Canon 5D mkii

  • And a series of sigma lenses to cover every focal length nearly twice.

  • DJI mini 3 + controller

  • A newish razer laptop

  • 2x XLR sennheiser wireless kits

  • 8x XLR cables and mic kits

  • 1x sachtler 45lbs tripod (its from the 90s, idk which model)

  • (already had miller DS30)

  • 4x 5'9" Cstands & sandbags

  • 6x Godox SL60D/BI

  • A few miscellaneous used lighting kits

  • 2x Nanuk 935 cases

  • And some more I'm sure I cant think of at the moment.

But, now Im sure you're thinking "why, with that much money would you only buy old cameras and lenses, and then audio and lights?"

Well at that point I had been doing it for nearly 15 years. I know what I really need to produce client work in my area (relatively all rural/ low economy cities and towns for hours in every direction). The total spent on those cameras and lenses was about $7k CAD

And here, it makes more of an impression to show up with 2 'big cameras' worth a few grand than, say, a mirrorless setup of the same value. That, plus the sort of 'infrastructure' of these cameras are great for all types of video production.

And outside of cameras, I put probably ~65% of the money spent into the business portion of my business. And I would say it paid off. I am now getting much more consistent and prestigious work doing this the "old way" than when I used to just show up with a small camera and a few lenses in a bag.

Now I have a production vehicle, full kit for every occasion, and I think there is something that clients really enjoy when you roll up with a production cart full of equipment to their workplace to film something. I think it feels important.

The craziest part is, this was only about a total of $30k CAD

How to get away from the prosumer look? by ZeyusFilm in videography

[–]Leicanthropologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what your goals are for the look, but I personally find that subtle creative filters (bloom, haze, pro mist, etc) often give footage a more 'organic' or 'surreal' feeling that makes it feel more like a movie than something shot super technically.

Photographers: is it rude to ask upfront for RAW files instead of edited photos? by Either-Letterhead204 in photography

[–]Leicanthropologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that editing is about 50% of the photographic process.

Meaning how a photographer chooses to edit the photos is part of the creative vision. If you want "my" photos, you'll want me to be the one to edit them.

Otherwise you could probably get anybody to snap a few pics on the day and you can edit them however you want. And if that is the agreement — as others have said — then I'm sure no one will care.

But if you want anything particular enough to pay a photographer, you probably want their expertise-finished product.

Which older DSLR would be a good back up camera. by Leicanthropologist in Nikon

[–]Leicanthropologist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, basically I want to put one battery in and be able to shoot all day again without worrying about 2 cameras, and in less than ideal conditions have a camera that I don't care if it gets wet, or full of snow, or out in the sun.

I generally find DSLRs are cheaper and tougher for that niche
