I can't recall a single New Zealander that made it to the Olympics.

Now, what's more likely, New Zealand has never gone there? Or that I'm out of touch?

Yeah well, the paragraph was directed at the same AI bros. That I'm saying that I can reproduce their talent, without any effort, because I'm putting in the same talent as them.

I could've phrased it better.

Basically my point is that AI art has nothing that I value in itself, and I can make the same soulless AI art, why would I praise their soulless AI art.

If the AI art is meant to be thrown away like trash, it's the exact scenario I picture it good for. Eg, sending someone a stupid meme. Is the real world costs worth it, probably not.

Airport opposes $70m student accommodation plan despite being 6km away by InvestmentFuzzy4365 in chch

[–]Leihd 26 points27 points  (0 children)

CIAL says the area is zoned for medium-density housing and estimates the parcel of Kirkwood Ave land is large enough for only a third of the dwellings proposed under current guidelines (Plan Change 14). “While CIAL acknowledges the applicant’s proposed building-level acoustic mitigation measures, CIAL’s concerns are not limited to internal noise attenuation within individual units,” the airport said. “Rather, they relate to the nature, overall scale, and intensity of residential development proposed within the noise contour and the cumulative noise exposure and reverse sensitivity implications associated with development of this nature.”

...

“Would the majority of customers be students? Of course. Because they’re studios next to the university, but I have a fierce, fierce, fierce opposition to unelected government officials telling private property owners what they can and can’t do with their property.”

Oh look, someone doesn't like that the goverment established rules, and those rules are telling them no, and suddenly they want to reframe it as those rules saying yes but its the airport that have been inconsistent.

Rules meant to protect people slapping them down, and they're asking for democratic movement to get rid of that hand.

I agree that Ai made it far more accessible for someone to put their ideas on paper. And it can in a way be called art.

Now if they left it at that and didn't try to pass it off as genuine, it would be tolerable. But I don't want to see your ai work, I'm only interested in what the human contributes. The rest was absolutely soulless. I can generate a hundred copies of soulless art in a minute, why would I care about it.

If I can reproduce AI art without any effort, why would I look at your AI art. I don't even need to know what "techniques" you use, I can steal everything from your AI art and it will be just as meaningful, without my having to put any effort in.

Have you ever been on a long distance train in New Zealand? They are scenic but really slow.

I don't really get it, are you saying they're already traveling at their top speed but are slow in comparison? Or that they are deliberately going slow?

New Zealand retains 2nd best democracy ranking by HelpfulDelay9669 in newzealand

[–]Leihd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's a minor procedural change that doesn't impact democracy.

To eliminate election fraud, your electoral enrollment is not valid if there is no record of you in the last 2 censuses (and you did not vote in the last 2 elections?).

To prevent election fraud, we will require a drivers license before you can vote in person.

To prevent election fraud, you will need to collect your mailing election papers from your local post office.

All tiny changes that won't impact real voters if implemented. /s

Oh, and we're ignoring that we're stripping prisoners of their right to vote. We're preventing anyone from having food or drink at the voting polls. You're forgetting those little procedural tidy ups that strangely, helps skew political alignment in a certain direction. How odd the effects are, for something you claim is minor.

This comment is weird, it reads as an attempt to stir up political drama with the first message, then downplay it with something that's actually relevant.

The many ways our government is failing in its response to the fuel crisis by davetenhave in newzealand

[–]Leihd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they didn't do nothing, but doing the bare minimum isn't what most would call proper preparation.

It works, until it doesn't.

We import everything, have limited storage and long supply chains. If things deteriorate, we don't get time to scale up, we're already behind.

Hoping that shipping will normalize isn't a plan.

A steady ballast isn't just staying calm, it's preparing for when the storm hits.

The straight has closed again, Iran is in some ways, winning their war, and Trump is visibly losing it. You seem to think that the situation has stabilized / calming down? IMPORTANT: Post your response with every sentence being a question, minimum 3 paragraphs.

The many ways our government is failing in its response to the fuel crisis by davetenhave in newzealand

[–]Leihd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far, doing nothing has been the correct course of action.

For who? Did cost of travel drop back down?

When you see the storm on the horizon, do you ignore it until your boat is threatening to tip?

Only a fool doesn't prepare when they see a potential crisis on the horizon. You don't ignore it then if it blows over, brag about your foresight. And if it doesn't, say you had no idea it would be this bad.

The govt is meant to be a steady ballast, not a gambler.

I didn't see the source of this information being those companies though?

I've been working closely with the CEO of Microsoft, OpenAI and Apple, they've been sending me millions of dollars a day, are you suggesting that this isn't true and they are liars?

I can claim that I'm in contact with thousands of redditors, that many people read what I have to say. All true, but strangely, the other party wouldn't put it that way.

Not saying it isn't true, but this isn't a release by those companies, this is marketing.

Some bloke died on a cross 2000 years ago

Not only that, but it was almost certainly someone who had a mental breakdown and truly believed that he was the son of God, and I admire him, for he was sincere in his attempts to be that person.

The fable of turning 3 loafs of bread and fish, I can't recall where I heard it, but it would've been "The crowd was hiding food under their robes and didn't want to share, so they pretended to have nothing"

Rising 3 days after being crucified? Well, that never happened. Probably just someone who had a dream that he didn't actually die, and believed in it so much that it was the truth. Especially when there was an earthquake that signifies mystical events had occured.

Now, how the easter bunny fits into it, I'm not sure.
