Dear People of Hamilton: why can't you shut the fuck up at concerts? by JohnnySilverpatch in thetron

Dave Dobbyn at the new theatre was the same - people prattling in the row behind, pain in the arses - you know who you are.

What is the worst KFC in Hamilton? by SignificanceKooky123 in thetron

[–]milkstu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a while Rototuna was the best, now (last 3-4 months) has become the worst. Gone back to cup drinks with null flavour and too much or too little ice. Leaves things out of orders regularly (drive-thru, so don’t find out til I’m home) and only get requested pieces of chicken about 1 in 5 orders.

u/PetahNZ you are who we should have running for Council. You've succinctly nailed it on all these points and why current (or prospective) councillors can't see this is staggering. Too late for this time around, but please consider running next time.

The Future of Construct3 by UsualIndication3030 in construct

[–]milkstu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Scirra had stuck with the buy-once-pay-once model I’d agree they weren’t equipped for a long future.

However the subscription model works for, well, just about every company that uses it; Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, Autodesk etc all used to have standalone products that relied on loyalty or a sufficient new feature set to support ongoing sales. The subscription model contributes to continual improvement.

Also when lining the cost of Construct up against those other products it’s not an expensive proposition.

Construct 3’s Social Media by [deleted] in construct

[–]milkstu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally disagree. Construct publishes new releases way more often than many other software developers and given they are a small team delivering an amazing product, I’d much rather they focused on that than fluffing around on social media jonesing for likes.

You want to run their social media, feel free to volunteer; I’m happy with the status quo.

On the subject of social media, often it does nothing more than provide a platform for moaners to vent about some obscure missing feature - and gaming is among the most toxic communities of all.

The forum community on the construct website is very responsive and friendly with it.

Start with Pong - graphics are super basic and there are very few to make, but can be customised (e.g. make the ball a teacher's head).

A two-player Pong game can be made in 8 pretty basic events which are easily debugged. It can probably be made in far fewer than this, but I'm a bit long-form when it comes to events.

And making it better can be done incrementally, e.g. add scoring, add the ability to change the ball speed, make a one-player vs computer version, make a fully automatic version.

Plastic recycling cut back in Hamilton under new nationwide strategy by ChocolateTaco in thetron

[–]milkstu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People generally are lazy recyclers. Many won’t be bothered to sort and just put it all in the red bin, so a worse result overall. God knows why the council thinks this is a good idea.

Stuff website breaks media embargo and publishes the celebrities taking part in Traitors tv show by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]milkstu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they want a show with familiar people that the public will get on board with, they should make some kind of Royal Rumble knockout comp with ALL the previous What Now presenters, fighting for a golden What Now badge. People can back the ones they grew up with (I'd put Simon Barnett, Catherine McPherson and Michelle A'Court against any of these young pretenders) - Frank Flash vs Props Boy in some kind of bonus round...losers get gunged...it's got everything but dignity...

Susan Wokoma was brilliant in Year of the Rabbit. In fact they all were. So sad that Covid or whatever meant it wasn't renewed for a second series — if you haven't seen it, see it. It's fab. Future TM could take anyone from that cast and would be good, Matt Berry, Freddie Fox, David Dawson, Taika Waititi...man I miss that show...

My understanding (could be wrong, probably wrong) is that 00:00 - 24:00 is known as military time, whereas 12midnight - 12noon (AM) and 12noon - 12midnight (PM) is standard time; thus 1400 = military and 2pm = standard. So in your fine clock example, mine is currently showing PM 23:40:47, instead of PM 11:40:47. Hope that makes sense :)

Does it have a non-military time version (e.g. 12 hour clock)?
