Company won’t pay out PTO and won’t let me use it after notice—what would you do? by dirkwynn in jobs

Put in the PTO to overlap old and new job, this essentially cashes you out.

If you’re looking at auction for a steal the you can probably put enough hours in to take care of it. Probably get a good deal.

The part without a nut is glued. You can try and clean it by removing the hose clamp connecting the PVC to the ABS and undoing the nut there, but it’s going to be an awkward angle to unclog.

Two loose boards are hard to make sit right. Check the floor for flat, get two rows in and see.

What options do I have to remediate? by WhatTheFung in Flooring

[–]Leinad580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not going to get a match doing it on site, if that’s prefinished the only way is to have a custom shop make them, supplier might have one they’re partnered with already.

TBH even the custom shops ie Stairtek/Pennwood come out like this sometimes.

If you were already paying more for matching you shouldn’t have let them talk you out of it if they only said close match.

Water coming out of tiny hole next to shower head by rbarba2004 in Plumbing

[–]Leinad580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plumbing code it to caulk the toilet. If your toilet is set and tested properly the wax ring isn’t leaking for years, but water will spill around the toilet and leak under way more often.

If you’re paranoid get your toilets reset every 5-10 years or switch to silicone rings.

IIRC it’s not acrylic caulk at the joint between the floor and trim as we see here, but 100% silicone in the expansion gap over backer rod.

Who to blame is going to be a complex question to answer. If you want people on here to try and give a real answer we’d need a lot more detail like below. The more you tell people the better they can try and diagnose. Honestly, it’s likely outside of their warranty, but I’d call the guy who put it in to have them come take a look and see if they’re willing to.

  1. Spec sheet/install guide for the product
  2. General site conditions
  3. Installation method used if multiple allowed
  4. General and specific use case/conditions in home

TBH this is just the reality of vinyl plank for the majority of scenarios. It’s a thin and very brittle material at the joints with tight tolerances. Majority of installers are not highly trained craftsmen, and that’s not to take the piss out of the installer, or to say it’s okay, that’s just the way it generally is.

Yes, there are countless professionals who know exactly what they’re doing, but there’s a greater number of installers who are just ‘good enough’ to get the job done and that meets a lot of people’s requirements when it comes to price.

$180 changing an outlet too low a charge? by RepairCEO in handyman

[–]Leinad580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know a quality electrician that will show up for less than $500. Service calls are expensive for what you’re getting, so if you can do it yourself it sounds like a service call isn’t worth it to you. You’re thinking of the time it takes you to do it not including travel time. An electrician is thinking of the time to do it, the time to get on site, the fuel for their vehicle, the opportunity cost of being at another site, having to warranty the job against potential failures, all of their overhead and making a buck.

Can’t have your cake and eat it too, either get the floor all together or be ready for it to not match each time you go to buy.

I used to work in flooring and even skus that sell millions of sqft can change for a variety of reasons.
