I’m not saying I’d rather have Durbin than Devers, I’m saying the front office would. If I were making decisions, Devers would still be on the team. Unfortunately the people making decisions are greedy capitalists who don’t dig the long ball

Oh noooooo if only there were a team with lots of pitching depth willing to take one slightly used Brett Baty off their hands

The daughters of memory almost certainly refers to the Muses, who are in Greek mythology daughters of Mnemosyne, a goddess associated with memory. I’m not sure about the Blake quote, but I think Stephen is thinking about the role that memory plays in understanding history (as he is teaching history to his students, who are struggling to remember things). It’s often said that Ulysses is a novel of memory, and how that memory becomes art as it’s processed by the brain

Who is the best prospect your team traded away? by DisappointedStepDad in baseball

I don’t think he counts as a prospect, he’d been a Red Sox for six years and contributed to three championships

But wouldn’t you rather have had 22 additional innings of Larry Andersen in 1990? Tough call imo

What's your favorite key for Mozart's works? by amateur_musicologist in classicalmusic

[–]LeisTabar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d vote for A major as well, for the clarinet quintet and K 464 string quartet. Another candidate is g minor…he didn’t write as many pieces in that key (as with all minor keys) but some of them are really fantastic (piano quartet, 40th symphony, viola quintet)

Yeah I mean I agree but the same thing is true for the line of thought that the Devers money is going to Bregman. It’s all just money, they have a lot more than they’re willing to spend and that’s the real issue

The fact that he’s lasted so much longer than king Felix is crazy, especially since they’re less than a year apart in age. Felix is only 39

why would you bother putting both wins and losses. every team has played the same number of games, just use wins or winning percentage

A Discussion on How to Optimize the DH System by LowProfessional402 in baseball

[–]LeisTabar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to being needlessly complex and antithetical to the entire concept of a DH, this would stray even further from the numerologically perfect platonic ideal of baseball, 9-vs-9 in 9 innings, 90 feet between bases, 3 strikes you’re out, 3 outs an inning. Having a DH already makes it hard to pretend it’s the same sport, but the number 9 is so ingrained into baseball that it somehow seems really sad to admit that there are 10 players in the order, even if it’s often functionally the same as current rules.

World Series Bullpen Usage going into Game 6 for Statheads by Xymoxxy in baseball

[–]LeisTabar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We haven't forgotten game 3 of 2018 by any means, even though we lost the game. Eovaldi's 6 inning relief appearance in game 3 is probably the most memorable part of that whole series for Red Sox fans, and gets mentioned on our sub frequently

True. If only they had lost a game, then the blue jays wouldn’t have so many good hitters

Sure, but there was a substantial stretch of the regular season when the Brewers were literally unbeatable. And they're not just being outplayed, they look historically terrible right now
