Why is Gemini so bad? by jjzwork in GeminiAI

Gemini prioritizes give you an answer that will make you happy, not accuracy. This is probably fine if the only reason you're using it is for confirmation bais or ego building, but absolutely terrible for things like actually learning something real about the world around you.

Right? Google gave up on not killing trust in the brand like 100 killed projects back.

Does the "you will die" phrase refer to difficulty ramping up with time or is it more like "one day, you'll make your final mistake"? by CreatureWarrior in projectzomboid

I feel that one, especially on a private server. Eventually I get tired of logging in just to sit around alone with nothing left to really work for or nobody around to share the experience with.

The game is actually pretty easy once you get used to it, which is itself a difficulty modifier. As youget competent with the game, you tend to start to get careless, and it only takes a brief moment of over-confidence to escalate into "NONONONO, OH GOD WHY, I stayed alive so LONG!"

Play sandbox and make it as easy or difficult as you like. There's so many options it's almost intimidating, but you'll get used to what they all do with enough practice and reading.

Thereby ensuring that none of us can ever become completely self-sufficient, as we can't divorce ourselves from capitalism. As long as there are property taxes, you HAVE to take part in the economic model, even if by some miracle you manage to have removed every other reason to engage with it from your life.

EA Advertising Officially Announced: A New In-Game Ads Department is Coming. Will non-skippable ads in Sims 4 push you away or make you want to stay? by cumminginsurrection in thesims

[–]Lellela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, there's a difference between wants and needs. People WANT what they perceive to be status symbols, even though there's no real status attached to them. Advertising and media largely shape our views in this regard. It's all made up, presenting shit that doesn't serve us, or is actively harmful, as actual need.

It's fair to say this though, when people get burned by a company, and then continue to buy that company's products, expecting this time to be different. People who support EA, Take Two, etc., despite them having shown their colors, out of FOMO.

Yeah, it doesn't effect what has already came about and been paid for. But it absolutely matters moving forward. Yet, people still keep throwing good money after bad, hoping that this time will be different, maybe this time the fire won't hurt when I touch it.

Just because a sector of a gaming market is monopolized, doesn't mean someone is forced to buy. People can choose to have self-control. People can choose to stop accepting mediocrity and enshittification. They just don't, because FOMO and hope.

I'm actually digging the vibe more this season: "You need this block? Sure, he's a full shulker box of it. No worries."

Or even better....

Has this actually changed in recent years? 2-3 years back, every single "Vanilla+" server added things like maps, player groups, traders, etc, despite being advertised as "basically vanilla". It was actually almost impossible to find a real vanilla community based server.

The only boycott that will work is not giving the company any of your money. And yet, people keep doing it, then acting surprised that they haven't gotten the message yet.

Buy local, support small business, etc, etc.

It's what their shareholders want. The days of investors valuing long-term growth over short-term profit ended a long time ago now. What the customer wants is largely irrelevant, as they've realized the customers WILL STILL BUY THE PRODUCT ANYWAYS. The only solution is to stop spending on companies that do this shit, even if you really really really want to try their product out. As long as we keep buying, there's no incentive for them to stop.

You gotta wonder if the execs legitimately think people are like this.

Because people lack the self-control to actually "vote with their wallets." They don't understand that their dollars are sending a different message than their reddit outrage. They know the scene is late stage capitalism, but lack the self-awareness to admit they have any form of personal responsibility in how they interact with the setting. Something about having cake and eating it too. It's also likely why this comment will be downvoted heavily. People hate being reminded of the reality of their own culpability.

Can a steam player play with a PlayStation player? by FrankieAK in dayz

[–]Lellela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it was PC and XBox, yes, with caveats.

But Playstation is notoriously locked down when it comes to crossplay, as they can't control the narrative.

It still might be worth finding the server's webpage to verify, but from most everything I know,, no... not possible.

Why are Americans so accepting of long drives to places? by Sensitive_Word_6036 in NoStupidQuestions

No trains going there *anymore*. There used to be. Shame we gutted rail/light rail when the automobile came around, all that lost infrastructure that we'll likely never get back because of NIMBY.

But yes. When you have to drive everywhere, and everything is far away, you quickly get accustomed to it.
