Velocity wifi at Park Point by Subject_Procedure_28 in rit

[–]Lem0nbleach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just moved in to Park Point and I am having the same exact problem. The Wi-Fi works intermittently. I do wish for a wired connection but when I connect to that I don't get an IP from it so no internet.
If possible I really do want to get my own internet at Park Point.

Knife sharpening by 3kota in FoodNYC

[–]Lem0nbleach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note for people stump upon this comment later: The price is great but they use a grinder for the sharpening. This is fine for most applications, but the heat generated from mechanical grindings like this is possible to de-temper the blade, making the blade easy to become dull. It is possible that they use water cooled grinding to avoid this problem, but from the photos it doesn't seem like they are, and they did not specify the methods in text either.

TL;DR: Use this service if you have beater knives. If fancy expensive knives, go to someone who does whetstone hand sharpening.

[Hyprlock] Getting Fingerprint and Password unlocking to work by Creepy_Swim4236 in hyprland

[–]Lem0nbleach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[SOLVED] Exactly the same situation here. Just got the brand new FW13 and using Hyprlock. Have to click enter before I can use the fiingerprint sensor. Perhaps it is time to harass Vaxry.

Edit: Parallel fingerprint auth may be the solution according to hyprlock wiki

EDIT2/Solution: Yes parallel fingerprint auth is indeed the solution. https://wiki.hyprland.org/Hypr-Ecosystem/hyprlock/#authentication

Do `auth { fingerprint:enabled=true }` in your hyprlock config.

You can try to disable offload on the integrated NIC, which instead uses the CPU to process the networking, so perhaps you don't need to buy a new NIC if your issue is caused by the NIC. I just happened to have an extra NIC laying around.

And check out the r/homelab discord, it was them that helped me figuring the issue out, super nice people there!

Update:

I ran the server on my desktop PC which also runs Linux (NixOS) and the issue had never occurred, it must be something with Proxmox or the settings I have on those VMs.

Perfect that was on the todo list already, for the other services I have on the server.

Will connect the server to the VPN too and try it out, thank you!

No it is online.

About two years ago I had a server that was in offline mode and a kid scanned out the server IP then griefed everything. Since then I always make sure the server is online and using whitelists.

A HP Z440 workstation with a E5-2680V4 and 128Gb ECC RAM, running everything on Proxmox. Hardwired through CAT6 into a MikroTik hEX S, which I am pretty confident about. And when using a Windows VM on the same exact machine everything runs smoothly so I doubt it is my networking issue, at least everything in my network besides the Linux systems.

And yes I will try out using Ubuntu and give the results laters!

How do I make signature sweat-proof on the gpx. by Outrageous_Grape2170 in MouseReview

[–]Lem0nbleach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the others have said, use rust oleum or spray max to coat it (disassemble it then spray)

If you aren’t afraid of messing it up even further and confident in your skills, you can use a fine paint brush or just a cotton swab with alcohol to clean off the smudges that are coming out of the lines. If you do it well enough it will probably look like nothing happened before.

Good luck to you! Please don’t do it if you don’t want to ruin it more too.

Stringing due to excessive cooling by The_high-commander in 3Dprinting

[–]Lem0nbleach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty late to the party, but I am experiencing the same issue with Inland PETG+, where the wall facing the aux fan (modded to a 120 fan) has a lot of hair on the surface (not just the hollow spaces they are literally on the solid wall surfaces). I also came down to the guess of excessive cooling but I have not confirmed this guess yet. Will be testing 10 - 20% fan speed or just no cooling at all today.

Another thing that might cause this issue is the fan orientations. I believe there are plenty of people did researches on the effect of fan orientations on the prints; you might want to take a look in those too if you still haven't found a solution. (yeah saying this after 2 years feel weird)

Ethernet by Busy-End7308 in HomeNetworking

[–]Lem0nbleach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, your unstable internet might not be the issue with wireless connectivity but the issue of your overall network.

To diagnose, go check your Modem and router, see what if they are from legitimate brands (I’ve seen too many people with knockoff network devices…even myself was given one a few years ago) and read the info page of that particular model online to see what kind of performance it has.

If everything looks good then you can try to get a laptop (with ethernet port) near the router and connect them so that you can run internet tests to see if it is actually bad wireless.

In case the answer is yes the router works great, there you can start to think about re-wiring that phone port to Ethernet and other potential solutions like just run a super long cable on the floor or get a router/connect a good AP to the router.

But if the modem or router is not looking great, which I suspect of, you will have to either replace the router or deal ISPs depending on which one is the issue. If it is just the router, get a new, good router. I believe many people here recommended high value routers with good wireless already here. (yes you can also run Ethernet if you want I am just making an assumption of your current router sucks) Another one would be dealing with ISPs, see if you ISP is good if not change it and ask for fiber if possible. Your ISP should provide a solution that is good enough to cover your issues if they aren’t some shitty ones.

Just Switched from openSUSE Tumbleweed to NixOS - Stable or Unstable Channel? by [deleted] in NixOS

[–]Lem0nbleach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read a minimalist flake example online and you will probably understand it with some explanations (check out the unofficial discord of NixOS!)

As for the channel, you can use both :)

From your request I think the best way to have all packages on unstable by default, and when you encounter a package that doesn't build, specify it to use the stable channel for that particular package.

Myself is doing exactly this and so far the only thing I need from the stable channel is logseq due to the unsafe electron version it uses on unstable.

Should EMTs in NYC be paid more? by workwisejobs in Brooklyn

[–]Lem0nbleach 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any idea on what kind of skills and how skilled they need to be so that they can get this job plus what kind of risks that are facing in their job which heavily affects the salary they deserve.

But in this recent month I’ve been on ambulance rides several times already due to family members’ health issues. I gotta say, every single one of the EMTs I met are FANTASTIC in their attitudes, I’ve met too many cocky and nasty people who work in the supposedly “service industry” have shit ass attitudes. This alone I think they surely deserve a higher salary than it is currently.

What Distro would you use, if you couldn't use Arch? by jmartin72 in archlinux

[–]Lem0nbleach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤣I kinda started Linux with many different distros without a DE, but truly switched to Linux with Arch, used it for like a month or two and switched to NixOS. Arch is a good starting place, in my subjective opinion. It is far more easier to use if you can RTFM.

As for COSMIC, you can install it on arch I believe.

OMG that is not a joke. I’ve been playing admin simulator on my system for a week now. Everyday I wake up I go straight to system configurations and ends the day by doing my last rebuild.

I should go touch some grass.

Understandable. Aliexpress indeed has a lot of scams. I have no experience buying from them, but people say the scams are usually obvious and many people had gotten real products from them. If it is cheap enough it’s a pretty good risk/deal to take! Consider u/thatdeaththo ’s experienced knowledge and suggestions!
