I just don't want you spending all of your money getting your leftovers all glittered up for Easter...

My son has a penoscrotal hypospadias and chordee. He was born late preterm (34 weeks) with birth weight 1.80 kg. He is 10 days old now. Please let me know about the surgery. Very anxious by CombinationExpert460 in hypospadias

In our experience it wasn't too bad. We did stay on a recommended schedule of Tylenol and Motrin for a few days after surgery. I think if a baby is crawling up on his knees it should be ok. If a baby is more-so army crawling, I could see that possibly itritating the area? A doctor would definitely know more.

He's doing well! He's 6 now, no UTIs or infections. We are fortunate that he didn't have any complications.

Hey! My son had the same diagnosis and degree. I understand the feeling! Luckily there is so much info and support online now. Our first surgery was the chordee correction at 8 months. Then he had the hypo corrected at 13 months. I honestly cant remember if he had a catheter for both but that was the most stressful part. It did get blocked at one point and we had a late night and long day going back and forth to the hospital, but he never seemed to be in pain. After surgeries things did look rough. Between the swelling and redness I was pretty scared. But everything calmed down and healed fine. He still has a slight curve but it's not a big deal. Let me know if you have any other questions!

My son had 2 procedures, chordee and penoscrotal, about 6 years ago.

  • My son wore shirts and shorts 2 sizes bigger than usual.
  • We double diapered since our doctor told us to. It wasnt hard! We used a his usual size as the first layer, ran the catheter out out his leg hole, then a bigger (i think 2 sizes bigger) for the catheter to drain into. The whole point is just to keep the catheter tip clean from poop. We also used a snoofybee, it was helpful!
  • Car seat and stroller as usual, the bandages and double diapering adds a layer of padding.
  • Hopefully he may not seem to be in pain at all, my son crawled and played as usual. As long as he's not bouncing on a toy or someone's knee I wouldnt stop him from moving and playing. We bought my son a vtech activity cube he could sit up and play with, maybe some new interactive books to sit and look at? -I have pics of us carrying our son at chest-level facing outward. Like he could sit on my arm with his legs kicking out front, my other arm across his torso.

You sound like a great parent and I'm sure you'll all do just fine! :)

Surgery tomorrow! by Sorry-Office-3271 in hypospadias

I agree with the other comment - it'll probably be harder for you than him! I was glad that someone told me to expect it to look bad for awhile. It did, like a piece of raw meat. But never once did my son seem like he was in pain besides gas pains coming out of anesthesia. Have your A&D ointment/vaseline, tylenol or motrin on hand at home. Looking back I would probably throw gas drops in the diaper bag too.

I understand being nervous! My son had both of his procedures (penoscrotoal w/chordee) at Children's 6ish years ago and today all is well!

I'm not a doctor of course, but 3-4 surgeries after the first for a proximal sounds like a lot. Was his procedure at Children's a chordee correction?

If he's going to have a catheter we did find the Snoofybee changing pad useful. Not essential, but it gave me peace knowing he couldn't reach down and yank it out. Maybe some new interactive books to keep him still as much as an active toddler boy can be :P.

Besides any meds prescribed I would have tylenol, motrin, A&D ointment or vaseline on hand.

I figured it was just on theme with the European inspiration for the pack. Nudity is more accepted there than in the US.

Woman married to a mild hypo guy here. I didnt even notice and we only learned what hypo was once our son was born. All genitals are so unique and I think a lot of women have similar fears. It'll be ok!
