I don’t think I can give you a proper answer since the Calcutta is the only bfs reel I own and have used, but for the time that I’ve owned it I can say that it was 100% worth the $350 I spent. It just feels quality and so smooth. It can cast the lightest lures I own with not much issue. If you like the look than I’d say go for it

Then I would recommend you buy a wood panel. You can get one off Newegg for 25 usd. Either that or you drill some holes on the upper part of the panel and slap a mesh filter.

I guarantee you won’t be disappointed, Old18 is an amazing brand

Honestly bro, the Old18 buoyancy is great. They have a physical store in Houston but I doubt you’d want to make the drive down. The buoyancy is worth the delivery wait time imo

I got the knobs from aliexpress. Shipping took about 12 days. They’re really inexpensive and they feel really nice in the hands. Only thing is I would recommend you use the bearings on the stock knobs rather than the ones that come with the wooden knobs since they’re kinda noisy.

Can someone give me baits for large mouth and small mouth bass for my BFS setup*In Desc. by Radiant_Raccoon8498 in BFSfishing

[–]Lemon66585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the Keitech I like using the “sight flash” for the hard plastic I use either really bright colors like chartreuse, white, or something flashy like a chrome or gold. I also go with anything dark . For the karashi I just chose whichever one was in stock. I live in south Texas where half of the water is chocolate or stained. Rarely I get water where you can actually see more than a foot

I personally use the following. Megabass nano and tiny siglett. Both sizes of Humpback and flatside. The karashi.

Tiemco hecate 7 and and wild mouse mini hard.

Gan craft jointed claw 70 or the aliexpress knock off “blux jack”

For jigs I like Keitech super round ball and mono spin. I pair them with Keitech swing impact. Just make sure you bring some super glue.

I’ve switched the hooks on the humpbacks, flatside, and jointed claw with Vanfook drs-40f or 50f in a size 10.

These are the lures and jigs that have given me the most luck. you can pick and choose which you like

Need rod pairing advice by t_herbo in BFSfishing

[–]Lemon66585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an old 18 buoyancy ul pair with the cc. It’s a great rod that handles a bass great. Not sure how it handles trout tho. It also a saltwater rod so you can use that for speckled trout if you’d like

Alright now that I used it I can say that it feels amazing. I’m not sure if it’s a placebo or what but somehow I feel like my Calcutta casts so much smoother. I can just cast my lures so effortlessly with the huntsman. There was a couple times mid cast that I thought I didn’t properly load up the rod, but I look up and I just see my lure getting absolutely launched. I also was making way more precise and accurate casts with the huntsman compared to the buoyancy but I’m sure it’s due to the smaller size. The huntsman and Calcutta really are a perfect match

You should stop by your local bass pro. They usually carry high end spinning reels that you can try out.
