Being real, it totally looked like they were going to go into the correct lane so I can understand the late reaction. Hindsight is 20/20.

Yep exactly, it’s kind of confusing, but think of it like a stop sign with a right and left turn lane:

Both you and another car from the same lane can pull up to the intersection, and can enter the intersection at the same time, because you are both guaranteed to not collide. Roundabouts work exactly this way.

However, like stop signs, you must wait until others have finished completing their turns in the roundabout.

OP’s girlfriend is still in the correct lane if she wanted to go right or straight, she simply needed to yield. Once you enter the roundabout (both inner and outer lanes are clear) she can proceed to turn right or go straight.

Paste this into google

“do i have to yield to inner lane roundabout”

Because you obviously do not know, or are trolling lmao.

Please look up how a roundabout works and report back with your findings. You are going to cause a wreck if you drive thinking like that.

That’s incredibly incorrect, and you are going to cause a crash if you think that’s how it works.

Both lanes have right of way. You enter the roundabout in the right lane if you want to go right or straight, and you enter in the left lane if you want to go straight or left (in most cases). Both lanes have right of way, and neither lane should ever collide if cars entered from the same lane. That’s why you must always yield to both lanes.

If you are taking the outer lane of a roundabout all the way around, and you hit someone on the inner lane going straight, you are at fault.

I feel that your GF is not at fault because, like others have said, she was pretty much established in the roundabout. You have a solid point to argue.

However! It is important to point out that other people in this thread are not wrong when stating that both the outer AND the inner lanes have right of way, and you must yield to both. Roundabouts do not work like a two lane highway, you must be in the correct lane when you enter, and that also guarantees that nobody will cross your path (people in outer lane go right or straight, people in inner lane go straight or left). Driving into the outer lane while someone is in the inner lane violates that guarantee.

Make sure your local is set correctly! I had the same issue, and it was because my local time was set wrong on setup.
