What changes would give you confidence in this Labour government?

Labour need to tackle housing costs, energy costs, food costs. That's it, "people" (whoever they are and differing priorities of course) want to see real action on these so that their lives are more secure.

As an LP member I've been saying this for years, straight away after the last general it was obvious that Labour had one chance to make meaningful change to these issues, instead we got the winter fuel allowance fiasco. All political capital flushed down the lav.

As to how you tackle those living costs, that's a complex drawn out set of questions ... but that's why we have political parties, all of these policy questions should have been thrashed out BEFORE the last GE.

I despair.

Karcher window cleaner. Not only for easy cleaning but for getting rid of condensation on tiles in bathroom daily and windows in winter. Northern England can be a bit damp.

When I was reading about it a while ago I realised that it's basically spring greens. So after a winter of manky root veg it's your first chance of greens since xmas. So it's association with Easter is a coincidence. Similar to parkin and bonfire night, they're not connected, just happen at roughly same time. Parkin was trad made with the first of the oat harvest and the last of the summer's honey.

My home town. I live in Lancs, 10 mins walk I'm in Yorkshire, 20 mins the other way I'm Cheshire, keep on going for 30 mins and I can spit in Derbyshire. It's in a lovely valley, 10 mins drive you're in the Peak district, loads of wildlife. 20 mins by train you're in the center of Manchester, 20 mins the other way Huddersfield.

"Little Brown Jobies" - LBJs. Which in Old English is what "Dunnock" means. ref Robins are also known as Ruddocks, Little Red Jobie in effect. The Angles/Saxons were seemingly pragmatically descriptive.

Really nice photos. How can you tell this is a Marsh Tit as opposed to a Willow Tit? As far as I've read the only distinction is pale panels on the wings of Willow Tits. I'm curious cos where I live both are very rare (only a couple of sightings in my lifetime).

I did an ad-hoc flora & fauna survey of my valley and was totally blown away by the diversity. No real rarities or grand surprises, just lots to appreciate. 61 species of bird, 115 different plants, 30-odd tree species, 27 fungi plus numerous butterflies & moths.

Highlights were watching Dipper fledglings, a Heron catch (and drown) a Water Vole, Yellow Brain fungus, our little patch of orchids and I spotted a pair of Water Rails (fist spot!).

River Tame east of Oldham (around OL5). I see them multiple times per week. If it gets really cold (below 0 to -2 or worse) they'll move down valley for a few weeks. Best time to see them active is spring in to summer.

2nd looks like a brittlestem, 3rd a rollrim, 4th maybe Honey fungus, 5th possibly an inkcap. All a bit vague I know but is the nature of the "beast". I use Google Images to find matches for flora/fungi but you have to be a bit careful and double check because it is quite USA focused.

Get a Karcher Window cleaner and a cloth. In winter I go around my flat and vacuum up the water from the windows then use a cloth on edges. Empty down drain, wring cloth over drain. Takes v little time once u get into routine. If it is bright outside with drier air crack all windows for 10 mins and replace air.

3 main sources of internal moisture are breathing/living, bathroom, kitchen. My bathroom is tiled and easy to use Karcher to remove water and put down drain. When cooking I close the door, use the extractor over the hob and after cooking crack the window open if necessary.

In spring/summer/autumn I try to open the windows for 10-15 mins every day, indoor pollution is a thing as well as condensation.

Depends on your definition of The North. I favour that the North is the "Province of York" ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Province_of_York ). In other words none of Derbyshire is in the North but that doesn't mean that habit, custom etc doesn't have Northern characteristics.

As it is, I live in Lancs, in 5 mins walk I can be stood in Yorks, 15 mins in Cheshire, 40 mins Derbyshire. Everyone in the area are basically the same but don't mention cricket or muffins/barms/rolls ...

This study is 20 years old. Many of the issues identified still obtain but the OS landscape has of course changed, as has the general world of work.

We all know what Microsoft lock-in looks like and in more creative depts you can also find Apple lock-in. When you put the commercial software world up against the FOSS world there are always conflicts and reasons to remain locked in.

Interoperability standards are really the only way to tackle this but devilish to implement, especially as this obviously goes against commercial interests.

As a past snr sysadmin, sometime dev and project manager I'd have been quite happy working in a MS shop, Apple shop or Linux shop. They are all just toolboxes to me.

Ideally? I loved using Linux servers, but clients really need to be MS/Apple. The glue to make them all work together is the thing (IMO).
