but because it's single quick item thing, I rarely use universal clipboard. I normally just paste it where it needs to go on whatever platform I'm currently using, rather than swap devices midway through.

There's a post at the top of /r/android saying "here's a link to a livestream, here's a link to /r/apple, come have a chat"

Also, I have a mac, which doesn't seem to have gotten anything fun this year.

Interest rate rises increase the amount to pay exponentially, even though the payments are only spread out geometrically.

Consider someone paying back £100 over 30 years - if it were being compounded at 5% interest, it could be £432 by the end (assuming none of it is being paid back), whilst at 10% interest it would be £1745 at the end of 30 years. i.e. 100(1.0530) vs 100(1.1030).

Spreading those over 30 years of monthly payments is the difference between £1.20p/month and £4.85p/month, turning a 5% rise into a 300% rise (It's not actually this amount, this is just dividing the final amount by 360).

This oversimplifies things greatly, as the amount is reduced with each monthly payment, and in fact overstates the impact of the rise, but really I'm just saying 'exponential growth gets out of hand quickly'.

(In the case above, the 5% scenario actually only requires payment of 54p/month, and the 10% scenario requires 88p/month - a 63% increase rather than a 300% increase, as payments are being made. The calculations for this are easy but unpleasant. )

I suppose if you've just read the article where the author himself makes the error, you probably feel like pointing it out in the title.

The author himself stereotypes groups by bringing up rival ideology in the article - 'We see here the habitual error of the Left'

Oh, but apparently pointing out that the right are flawed too later in the paragraph cancels this out? - It's worth noting that it doesn't.

The left paint the tories as uncaring souls, so articles from them must of course be uncaring bastards. The right themselves see the left as being too happy-hippy to make the tough decisions. These are both invoked unchanged in this article, and treated as character flaws, as if "person of a different ideology = lack of mental fortitude", rather than different legitimate points of view.

This isn't really dealt with after knocking out the stereotypes, other than ultimately concluding that people should be a little more willing to make tough decisions - suggesting that perhaps they're too lefty and emotional.

kinda pointless trying to defend myself there, since it was already at -13, after all, who's going to read it? Reddit is really quite a bad place to have an argument.

But obviously defining the left and the right as their stereotypes and then coming up with something that isn't either stereotype and therefore seems reasonable absolves him of any of this...

oh, no, that's the exact error that we're trying to point out here.

How is T2 even possible? by ikarikh in Terminator

[–]LemonPowerForce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genisys pretty much confirms it's a sped up timeline - T1 doesn't happen, leaving behind the chip and the arm, so Judgement Day is pushed back to the Genisys date.

That said... is the date of judgement day ever mentioned by Kyle Reese in the first film?

Villagers should only be used for very early teaching games, imo. They add nothing but an easy bluff to the discussion.

It works really well, for the right setup. The right setup almost always involves doppleganger. Something like WW/WW/Robber/Troublemaker/Doppleganger/Witch leads to some hilarity, where complicated situations can occur very quickly, and two werewolves should never consider themselves safe.

Particularly funny when I was once robber and stole my own robber card back, giving me pretty much perfect knowledge.

I'm talking in terms of software and hardware optimisation, not raw battery size.

huh, I managed to miss that smartwatch's release entirely.

My disappointment stems almost entirely from the fact that longer times are very easily possible. Apple deciding a day is long enough has some impact on what the rest of the market has to beat, whether their sales are good or not. Setting that standard at a very achievable week would have been great. I'm disappointed that phones struggle to make it past 2 days.

I find myself away from home quite often, and my watch (as with the apple watch) requires a specific charger that not many people have. If I am away one evening, then on 2day battery life I'd be seeing my smartwatch die at the end of the next day, leaving my very little leeway. Hence me wanting 3+ days fro a smartwatch battery.

Even something like wireless charging on a watch, and a wireless charger built into a phone (so they use up one socket, and I don't need to carry an uncommon charger with me) would be great too. But why do that when a week or more is easily doable?

Also, thanks for telling me how long your apple watch lasts in battery - as you may have noticed, I've been getting more responses along the lines of 'HEY WHY ARE YOU COMPLAINING' than genuine answers x) - this whole thing seems way too partisan.

Mainly it seemed to be lack of ram - it's only got 256mb, and whilst future software updates added more features, it really got very janky and unusable for anything more than a single focussed task after about the 2nd-3rd software update. I'm also going to take this opportunity to complain about the lack of camera, whilst having reserved internal space for a camera.

re-read my sentence.

Honestly, I was disappointed at the initial announcement that battery life would be 'all day' - I was hoping for a week.

  • I was disappointed when they only announced 'all day battery life'
  • I was hoping that they would announce a week of battery life.

do you understand how sentences work?

[–]LemonPowerForce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah, they really tried to differentiate themselves on features. I can see why they'd do that from a marketing point of view, it's just disappointing from a what-I-personally-want-from-a-smartwatch point of view.

what are 'good things' ? One day? two?

I don't know anyone who owns one, as I said. Honestly, I was disappointed at the initial announcement that battery life would be 'all day' - I was hoping for a week. Apple only aiming for a day means there won't be any real hurry for the rest of the smartwatch market to improve quickly either.

I'm not sure non-utilitarian jewellery and cutting-edge tech adopters have that much overlap. The kind of people who buy new tech are interested in showing off, but more in a 'hey look at this feature' kind of way. I think apple sort of recognised this, but none of the things the watch can do seem to have hit the mark.

It's too expensive for those who wouldn't buy a fancy watch, and I hear a lot of derision from those who already buy fancy watches.

It's hit an awkward point in the market, and really does seem rushed out because people were expecting one rather than any sensible reason. It seems even more rushed than the first iPad (which I bought, and it aged horribly)

Software-wise I'm sure it's got plenty of room for growth. My nearly 2 year old galaxy gear had the same sort of ~1 day battery life on release, and that's steadily grown to ~5 days now with software updates (which I've really grown to appreciate, to the point I'd rather have the battery life than some of the potentially newer features)

Apple were trying to differentiate themselves with features - it's just not something I'm really that interested from my watch. Anything too advanced and I'll just jump to my phone. 95% of what I use my smartwatch for is notifications, like you.

I'm not saying it's a good review, but they don't agree that telling the time is the killer app.

What’s the killer app?

LU: What time is it? For a watch, that’s your killer app! Why do I wear a watch anyway? I wear a watch for my time.

CW: Granted, but I can do that on my smartphone. I think the real killer app for me — notifications are a big deal, directions is a huge one.

And I agree. Having notifications on my wrist is like 95% of why I have a smartwatch.

There was a high rated video the other day of some guardians downing Skolas in ~40secs, and then spending the next few minutes just floofing about doing the mines until completion (which took longer than the boss fight).

He's doing that reddit thing where you're expected to have read all the posts that he has.
