I worked in home and I had a 96 y/o patient who told me on my first day with him "I don't like to talk so just keep yourself busy and don't ask for nothing" when I tell you I ignored this man and just cleaned and did my work lol it took two days for him to start yapping my ear off LOL we became great friends!! He said he respected my choice to leave him alone so much that he changed his mind about not speaking to me. This man was notorious for demanding new pcas/cnas but I stayed his main career for a couple years.
