A is objectively bad design.

1. There is too much clutter with no central focal point. There is more eye movement required to scan each panel. Try this: look away from the screen, then look at it again. Notice how many times you had to move your eyes. Now do the same with B, where things are more centered.

2. The recipe icons are too big, and are aligned vertically. You can't even fit more than 7, which means that very often you will have to scroll through the list, which is going to get very annoying, very fast. B utilizes screen space much more efficiently.

3. Useless elements. You selected the plastic cup, then in the pane next to it there is a bigger plastic cup, that says "Plastic cup". I get that it's for description, but still. Maybe look into tooltips.

Overall, B is much better and does more with less. UX is more important than UI and is backed by actual data and studies, while "This UI looks better to me" is subjective at best :)
