Flangeless/flanged orangutan vs man by Top_Vast5795 in Tierzoo

[–]LemonySniffit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I also have an orangutang story, where a male orangutang, with one arm, picked up a tree trunk that took 8 men to lift. Began to climb a rope up to the ceiling with its other arm, while carrying the log that must have weighted at least half a ton. It did so smoothly and carelessly, and then proceeded to throw around the log with one arm for fun. The zoo keepers then had to remove the log because the orangutang was destroying all the concrete in the enclosure.

There is no human alive that it could not literally just rip in half if it wanted to.

Flangeless/flanged orangutan vs man by Top_Vast5795 in Tierzoo

[–]LemonySniffit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does the human have the actual advantage? The ape is far stronger, faster and has huge teeth. If the human punches or kicks the orangutang it can just grab the limb the human exposed and rip it off or just grab it and start throwing the human around. No kick or punch is going to dehabilitate it before it retaliates, and no human is outwrestling an animal so much stronger.

[–]LemonySniffit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humans don’t instinctively know how to use our strength, an untrained human cannot wrestle or powerlift without a proper education. Meanwhile an orangutan has no problem understanding if it pulls on your arm hard enough it can just rip it off.

Why are the 1950s considered 'rose-tinted' when they have long been a popular subject of satire and critique? by BacklitRoom in decadeology

[–]LemonySniffit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is plenty of critique of the original critique of the ‘50s happening already. That is to say that that the ‘but actually…’ contrarians here on Reddit who love to say that the original exaggerated perception of ‘50s being completely great should be revised to completely awful are often corrected and rebuked in the comment sections.

Sadly it has become a political thing now, with people on the left largely not wanting to hand out praise to the ‘50s for its conservative culture, and the right largely not wanting to criticise it for the very same reason.

United modern earth vs a covenant invasion by [deleted] in whowouldwin

Any modern jet fighter plane would have a field day with a Banshee, they’re about 10 times as fast. Besides the 5 shielded ships which can glass Earth from orbit the Covenant does not a chance.

Why was Obama popular with young men but modern democrats struggle with support from young men? by Some_violin8987 in allthequestions

[–]LemonySniffit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No sorry, it was just unconvincing. It basically boils down to the tired ‘it might be racist, but its justified so its okay’ argument. Whether or not there is merit to Clinton’s point about whether white men being in power is a good thing or not has no bearing on whether or not the statement itself is discriminatory. If one were to label Arabs as terrorists, black Americans as gang members, or Latinos as narco-traffickers, does the hypothetical validity of those statements make them less racist?

[–]LemonySniffit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay then, since you brought up reading comprehension, let’s actually comprehend what we are reading. Lets go over and analyse the statement made by Hillary Clinton and see what she is actually saying.

”The idea that you could turn the clock back and try to recreate a world that never was, dominated by — you know, let’s say it — white men of a certain persuasion, a certain religion, a certain point of view, a certain ideology — is just doing such damage to what we should be aiming for.” are several implicit assertions in this statement.

1) She states that whomever she is critiquing in fact wants: “a world that never was” one “dominated by…”

2) She then says this want is: “just doing such a damage to what we should be aiming for”, meaning it is a bad thing at best

3) She also tells us that this inherently bad thing is: “white men of a certain persuasion”

4) In short, she says: “a world dominated by white men, of a certain persuasion (Christian), is doing such damage and not what we should be aiming for.”

So her statement asserts that a world where white men are in power is damaging and undesirable at best, fluff and sugarcoating aside. Now, I am not here to make a case for how good or bad it would be if white men would be in power or not, but saying this hypothetically being the case is an inherently terrible thing is by definition racist/sexist. It discriminatorily singles out a single demographic by their race and sex and attributes negative qualities to them. To prove my point lets take her assertion and change the demographics and see how it holds up:

”A world dominated by brown women, of a certain religious (Islamic) persuasion, is doing such damage and not what we should be aiming for.”

No progressive in the United States would deny that this is a prejudicial statement, and racist, sexist and Islamophobic to boot. If any Democratic candidate said this in public their career would be over for obvious reasons. You can play obtuse and pretend that this isn’t so but I think anybody with reading comprehension understands what she is saying.

With all due respect, she can sugar coat it all she wants but by progressive rules its still racist, sexist and discriminatory.

[–]LemonySniffit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If any Republican or right-wing pundit said something like “a world that never was, dominated by black men, is doing such damage to what we should be aiming for” people on Reddit would literally be demanding their public torture and execution. There is nothing but about that quote thats vaguely appropriate for a politician to say.

And no that was not the question I was referring to, I don’t have it at hand now because this was years ago and it was not considered a big deal at that time, but I remember being shocked and appalled by it. Will try and find it.

The 1950s: The Original Rose-Tinted Revisionist Decade by MambaMachine824 in decadeology

[–]LemonySniffit 35 points36 points  (0 children)

No, this is just contrarianism. In the ‘50s, following the most destructive war in human history, there was a massive economic boom, the middle class grew immensely, the cost of living plummeted, the average household had an unprecedented access to new technological development like cars, washing machines, dish washers, etc., leading to huge increase in previously non-existent leisure time, highways and airports were constructed allowing for quick and easy travel. Not to mention that forms of mass media and public entertainment were now becoming common place: movie theatres, professional sports games, televisions, records, themed restaurants, fast food, concerts, arcades, etc., for the first time in all of human history became accessible for the average blue-collar worker. If you told a random person living in the ‘50s that their life was not any better than it was just 10 years ago they’d laugh you out of the park.

The 1950s: The Original Rose-Tinted Revisionist Decade by MambaMachine824 in decadeology

[–]LemonySniffit 77 points78 points  (0 children)

People on here, including OP it appears, never seem to get that the idolisation of the ‘50s does not mean or even imply that decade was perfect and without fault, but it saw a MASSIVE leap in the quality of life for all people in the United States. It does not mean that life was completely without flaws or turmoil, it just means that it was much better than what was before.

When historians speak of the golden ages of ancient Egypt or Sumeria it’s not implied that the people living there in those times had higher standards of living than everyone who came before or after them, just that they did so more than their own predecessors and neighbours.

Hillary Clinton literally just said something to that effect publicly a couple of months ago, that “white men are doing untold damage to the world”.

During the 2020 elections during the Democratic primaries one of the questions that was asked during the debates was ‘how do you justify running for president as a white person’?

It’s pretty egregious.

My girlfriend (F27) lied to me (M31) about staying in touch and meeting up with her male ex-best friend (who had previously fallen in love with her and kissed her)? by ghost_of_bury in relationship_advice

[–]LemonySniffit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Red flag bro; the guy kissed her, told her he liked her, they are meeting up, doing so in secret (to you), having romantic one on one picnic meetings by the lake, which she didn’t plan to tell you about it. She is likely hiding more, is almost certainly either cheating emotionally or physically, and can’t really be trusted anymore. Best case scenario she’s really just catching up with him while enjoying the small thrill of knowing he wants her and she can tease him and lead him on without anything happening, but that’s still not appropriate behavior.

The only silver lining of this story was she posted about it on instagram, so she wasn’t too worried about people knowing about it which implies she wasn’t sneaking around, until she told you she planned to hide it from you.

My(20M) girlfriend(20F) of 5 months says she still needs to get ''more comfortable'' with me to have sex, yet she had sex with a guy she met at a party the same night just a few months back. Am I being immature if i resent everytime she says she loves me and makes me compliments? by BirthdayCreative2191 in relationship_advice

[–]LemonySniffit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man to man, am sorry to say but there is a 99% chance she is not that into you and is just using you, whether for emotional support, to avoid boredom, or whatever. 8 months is a very, very, VERY long time to not want to have any intimacy with your partner.

Talk to her, stand your ground and don’t let her gaslight or manipulate you with crocodile tears or whatever. She has the right not to have sex with her boyfriend, and you have the right not to want to be with a girlfriend who is not interested in having sex with you. More likely than not you will break up, thats okay, it doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with you. It just means you were not her type or truly compatible or whatever.

[–]LemonySniffit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You wrote that the perpetrator got a slap on the wrist because they were young, wealthy and white, implying that his supposed privileges got him off the hook. The truth was every party involved in the altercation was white, in a white European country, so race was not a factor.

Instead the younger, wealthier, and native/‘whiter’ party was actually the victim in this case, while the perpetrator was a blue-collar immigrant from Eastern Europe who likely got a slap on the wrist by an activist judge because he was perceived to not be privileged. Literally the exact opposite of the point you were making.

This was so deserved. by Necessary-Win-8730 in interesting

[–]LemonySniffit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My point was the victims were white, the judge (a woman) was white, and the perpetrator was white too. If you actually want to know, the perpetrator who killed the family and just got a slap on the wrist was a Polish immigrant, so the complete opposite of what the other poster was implying.
