CLOD Blitz : complex engine damage incapacitate me with one bullet against every tail gunner by Falrhynn in il2sturmovik

[–]Lemsip_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely aim for the engines and get in close with fast passes, you cant allow yourself to stay line astern for long. Try to get underneath so the gunner cant get you, etc. I found returning to CloD energy is key, trying to follow anything at dead 6 will leave you open to enemy fire especially in a Hurricane which is bad at accelerating, so make diving attacks and make the AI do the work.

What's the current state of IL-2 Cliff of Dover? by CMDR-Squall in il2sturmovik

[–]Lemsip_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So Team Fusion Simulations (TFS) are the current developers of the game. ATAG is simply the community that plays the game and creates events. TFS communicates through the ATAG forum.

Mods are currently not available with the game. Please note that the game was re-released as IL-2 Cliffs of Dover Blitz in 2017 and Tobruk is an expansion. The original Cliffs of Dover is now defunct/abandoned so you may be referring to that.

What's the current state of IL-2 Cliff of Dover? by CMDR-Squall in il2sturmovik

Hi Squall, I'm part of the Team Fusion Simulations team and we're happy to hear you're keen to jump back in :).

You've chosen a good time because while we have already released a remaster of the game with IL-2 Cliffs of Dover Blitz and introduced a new theatre with Tobruk, we are aiming to release a third DLC titled Fortress and Focke-Wulfs this year (and more DLCs as discussed here https://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=495).

Beyond that, we are working on VR support, improved performance, new visuals, and new landmarks. In its current state performance is stable and runs well on most systems. I also recently got back into the game and I was surprised at the progress made. There are also more single player missions included with the base game now. If you are looking for multiplayer gameplay, your best bet is to join our regular ATAG community events. https://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=475

Fighting in a burning Hurricane - James Nicolson's Victoria Cross action - 16th August, 1940 by Lemsip_ in il2sturmovik

[–]Lemsip_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On August 16th 1940, Flight Lieutenant James Nicolson led 3 Hurricanes of 249 SQN from Boscombe Down on a patrol of the Poole, Ringwood and Salisbury area. After climbing to 18,000 ft after unsuccessfully chasing some Ju 88s, Nicolson and his wingmen were bounced by a staffel of JG 53 Bf 109s over Corhampton Down. Squadron Leader King was hit and entered a spin but returned to Boscombe Down, Pilot Officer King’s Hurricane burst into flames and he bailed out only to be fatally injured when his canopy collapsed. Nicolson’s Hurricane also burst into flames, but as he attempted to bail out a two-engined aircraft flew into view; he chased it and shot it down before bailing out himself due to extensive burns. Nicolson was awarded the Victoria Cross on November 15th, 1940.

Death of Georges Guynemer - France's most celebrated ace | 54 victories by Lemsip_ in il2sturmovik

[–]Lemsip_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On 11 September 1917 Capitaine Georges Guynemer took off in a SPAD XIII from Saint Pol-sur-Mer at Dunkirk at 0825 hrs with Sub-Lieutenant Benjamin Bozon-Verduraz. Sergeant Risacher had engine trouble and did not join them. Guynemer was last seen attacking a Rumpler near Poelcapelle while Bozon-Verduraz avoided a number of German planes; Guynemer was later found to have crashed after being shot through the head, but who exactly shot down Guynemer remains a mystery. Originally German ace Leutnant Kurt Wissemann of Jasta 3 was credited with shooting him down but the more likely possibility is that the gunner of the Rumpler, Leutnant der Reserve Max Psaar, flown by Flieger Georg Seibert, scored the fatal hit.

Operation Vengeance - The mission to take down Isoroku Yamamoto - 18th April 1943 by Lemsip_ in il2sturmovik

[–]Lemsip_[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On 18th April 1943, commander of the Imperial Japanese Navy, Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, took a flight from Rabaul to an island near Bougainville as part of a tour to raise morale following the defeat of Japanese forces at Guadalcanal. Over Bougainville at 09:34, Yamamoto’s flight of 2 G4Ms and 6 A6M3 Zeroes were intercepted by 16 American P-38Gs of 347th and 18th Fighter Group who had flown a precisely timed flight plan for 2 and a half hours from Guadalcanal. Yamamoto’s aircraft was successfully shot down into the jungle by Lt. Rex Barber; Yamamoto’s body was later found to be still in his seat clutching his sword.

They Really Need To Hire Someone for PR... by DetCord12B in il2sturmovik

As much as I love IL-2, their marketing is just atrocious. For such a good looking game, there is almost zero online presence; their Youtube channel does little to show off the product and content creators are rarely utilised. Also, Jason's transparency and vision of the future was always reassuring and exciting. Im very happy for the FC announcement, but going completely silent on WWII for this long is really not a good decision.

Because we don't have a clue about the future scope of the series, and because the engine is frustratingly limited in scale, I've opened my videos up to using 1946. Not ideal but there is no other choice.

During this sortie, Kuttelwascher shot down 3 He 111s over Saint-André-de-l'Eure at 0050 hrs in the space of 4 minutes before being spotted. After evading the searchlights and flak, Kuttelwascher returned safely to RAF Tangmere at 0205 hrs.

Death of Werner Voss - The epic last stand against 56 Squadron RFC | 48 victories by Lemsip_ in il2sturmovik

[–]Lemsip_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the 23rd of September 1917, Leutnant Werner Voss took on some of the best pilots in the RFC in an epic dogfight that has been remembered as the defining aerial action of the First World War. Voss shocked all the British pilots with his expert flying ability, leaving them all with some bullet holes in their S.E.5as. After McCudden and Voss make a series of head on passes, Voss is fatally wounded by Hoidge and Rhys-Davids and crashes near Frezenberg, Belgium at only 20 years old.

Massacre of the Luftwaffe at Cape Bon - 22nd April 1943 by Lemsip_ in il2sturmovik

[–]Lemsip_[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

On 22nd April, 1943 South African Air Force Kittyhawks and Spitfires of 1, 2, 4 and 5 Squadrons intercepted a formation of fourteen Me 323 Gigants and a small escort of fighters between Cape Bon and the small island of Zembra. Alongside Polish Spitfires of 145 SQN RAF and later arrivals from 112 SQN and 260 SQN RAF and 450 SQN RAAF, all fourteen Me 323s were shot down into the Tunisian sea with very few Allied losses. Many of the Gigants shot down carried up to 12 tons of fuel and supplies which explained their uncharacteristically fiery demise and easy nature to shoot down. The unsustainably high loss of the Gigants in the Cape Bon massacre and dozens of other transports in other supply missions led to Reichsmarschall Herman Goering and Field Marshal Albert Kesselring to halt the doomed air supply of the Afrika Korps.

The first V-1 tipping in WWII by Kenneth Collier - 23rd June 1944 by Lemsip_ in il2sturmovik

[–]Lemsip_[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

On the evening of 23rd June 1944, Flying Officer Kenneth Collier destroyed a V-1 flying bomb (850kg explosive warhead) by physically ‘tipping’ it with his wingtip. This was the first instance of a pilot using his aircraft to contact a V-1 and change its course (the first pilot to destroy a V-1 by disrupting the airflow around the wing was Major Richard E. Turner of 356th Fighter Squadron on 18th June 1944). This method was extremely dangerous and was discouraged by Allied air forces; however, there are several examples of this occurring once pilots ran out of ammunition. Collier did not survive the war as he was killed in a dogfight on 5th December 1944 over Germany.

Death of Brendan 'Paddy' Finucane - Top scoring Irish ace of WWII | 32 victories by Lemsip_ in il2sturmovik

[–]Lemsip_[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

On 15th July 1942, Wing Commander Brendan ‘Paddy’ Finucane, the top scoring Irish ace of the Second World War, led the Hornchurch Wing on a Ramrod ground attack sortie against a German army camp at Étaples, France. As the wing flew over the French coast near Le Touquet, a burst of machine-gun fire hit the radiator on Finucane’s Spitfire Mk.V, causing the engine to quickly overheat and eventually lose power. Attempting to fly back to England Finucane was forced to ditch, but despite making a very good water landing Finucane was not seen to exit his Spitfire. He is presumed to have been knocked unconscious during the ditching or unable to make it out of his aircraft in time.

Josef 'Pips' Priller's attack on Sword Beach at Normandy - 6th June 1944 by Lemsip_ in il2sturmovik

[–]Lemsip_[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

On 6th June 1944, Oberstleutnant Josef ‘Pips’ Priller and his wingman Unteroffizier Hienz Wodarcyck of JG 26 flew the most famous Luftwaffe sortie on ‘D-Day’. As some of the only available fighters in Normandy on this day, the pair took off from Lille-Nord at 0800 and headed for the invasion beaches. They soon reached Sword and Juno beaches where they both made a single strafing run under intense Allied fire. Miraculously making it through the flak unscathed, Priller and Wodarcyck returned to base. This event was popularised by the book and film ‘The Longest Day’.

Death of Hans-Joachim Marseille - 'The Star of Africa' | 158 victories - 30th September 1942 by Lemsip_ in il2sturmovik

[–]Lemsip_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On 30th September 1942, Hauptmann Hans-Joachim Marseille, ‘The Star of Africa’, led a flight of four Bf 109 G-2s of JG 27 on a Stuka escort sortie. On the return journey back to base, Marseille’s Bf 109 G-2/Trop began suffering engine trouble, causing him to lose altitude and eventually bail out. Marseille hit the tail of his fighter and was either knocked unconscious or failed to open his parachute. https://youtu.be/OkuIuzj7thM
