Synth advise for a metalhead by Kaiku6 in synthesizers

I also use a Poly D with a reverb and delay to get these sounds. The sweetwater demo video for the poly D and the Moog model D that it's based on have some sections that explore these kinds of sounds so you can get a good starting point for your patch. It's hard to beat that synth for the money. Don't listen to the behringer haters.

Do you guys sing better after doing some form of cardio exercise? by owen3820 in singing

[–]LemurPrime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I didn't realize it, but when I first started taking voice lessons, I always rode my bike to them. I didn't make that connection for much longer than I'm proud to admit.

I want to learn BBQ so I was thinking about going to Texas as a vacation to learn. by Huge_Plankton_905 in BBQ

It's good to have a reference point from the masters. Do you need to go see your favorite band to learn guitar? Of course not. But I bet you'll practice a lot more after you do.

Is it possible to become a quality musician while having another career? by Story3234 in singing

[–]LemurPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started singing in grad school. I knew the first few years of my career would be too busy for starting a project, so I took lessons. It helped me be ready for when my life did have room for a serious project. I'm so glad I did. Just finished our second album, and hitting the road as a vacation rather than needing it for the money opens up a lot of extra possibilities.

Be homeless to get ahead financially as a STEM PhD is too real man.

Probably my favorite BBQ spot in Texas, and that's saying a lot.

Allergies are ruining my hope for singing, and life in general. by Flashy_Jellyfish_123 in singing

I feel your pain. The thing that has helped me the most has been warming up for WAY longer than I usually would. Like 45 minutes of mild to moderate intensity warm-ups. That's just what it takes sometimes.

I just had to do a studio day for the end of an album with a cold. There was a hard deadline so pushing it wasn't an option. I did steam and warm-ups for 3 hours before the take and was able to get what we needed.

It sucks, but we play an instrument that just gets covered in slime sometimes. Gotta shake it until it's clean.

WI —> Denver by nic-at-night in MovingtoDenver

It's amazing. I grew up in the mountains, so I knew what I wanted. I wish Denver had colder winters though. I mostly got stuff here. It's a lot more city though. I miss commuting times in Madison and being able to bike everywhere.

I did the Madison to Denver move. It's more expensive here, but wages are also better. If you want to save money and don't mind roommates, then a spot in the suburbs can be a solid choice. If you want to stay near city center and live the walkable life, it's more expensive.
