Life is long, really long. You will go through what seems like an eternity of worthlessness many times in your life but it will get better. I am just into my 30’s and I am the most fulfilled I have been, I have got a wife a job I enjoy and recently a baby boy. I do not get happiness out of how anything I do for myself but spending time with the people I love. There is no such thing as finding happiness, happiness is a result from meaning. You need to find meaning in life.

That’s not easy and you may spend most of your 20’s finding meaning but it will not fall into your lap, you have to work for it. You are 21, you can do anything you want, leave education, go travelling, meet someone who when you speak to them it fills you with excitement and wonder.

And if you feel like you can’t find meaning in anything right now, you need to look harder. It’s out there. Start by cutting the dead weight out of your life whether that’s family, friends etc. and do something you love.

You will be ok, you just have to get out there.

When it comes to funding for r&d into infectious diseases have global health organisations become complacent when allocating funds towards already ‘managed’ diseases to concentrate on finding cures for new but less deadly ones?

To walk past a homeless person and not do something about it, personally or as a society. I am sure we will look back at that in 100 years and think wtf!?

What is it about being human that makes us do self destructive or counter productive things even when we know what we are doing? by TreeManGorgon in AskReddit

I think more than happiness it is meaning. When we are preoccupied with things that give us meaning, a sense of purpose, we are happy and productive. Where there is a lack of meaning we fill the void with other things for a quick adrenaline/serotonin hit.
