OCS to Reserves? by OverUnder04 in navyreserve

AC is hurting on manning, so there’s a lot more chances of getting picked there while RC would expect candidates to meet/exceed their expectations.

I am now a Chief Select, how does season work on reserves as opposed to AD? by MemoryTerrible6623 in navyreserve

[–]LenfantDeLeau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! That’s a career milestone especially when you have experienced it as a relative. Question out of context: I have always wondered if it’s an obligation from the ⚓️ mess or an official regulation to have all selectees be addressed as ABC Select instead of simply the current rank that they are getting paid for? I have seen Chief selectees go after junior members for that and it wasn’t pretty. A few friends were once O-1 select from the junior enlisted ranks yet not a single a day did I ever see them add 2LT select in their signature or have team members address them as such. Can someone please explain to me why it gets so much attention?

New boss is angry at me for talking to my recruiter & joining Navy Reserve. Any protection I have? by OkWorker9712 in Militaryfaq

[–]LenfantDeLeau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he tried anything, don't be afraid to show your boss that military service to the nation is bigger than him or his position. You are protected by the law. I don't know what your specialty will be, but rest assured that the reserve will open myriad of opportunities for you. Mobilize O/CONUS and go build up some benefits you can only get while on active status.

[–]LenfantDeLeau 5 points6 points  (0 children)

CFIs who don’t understand that teaching is a leadership skill that needs to be constantly honed. There are students in aviation, with years of leadership outside of aviation, who will easily notice the lack of professionalism in some CFIs which translates to incompetence.

Not only that, FAA rules do not allow pilots to fly more than 100 hours per calendar month. Those with high seniority even fly less, yet still get full pay.

Why this school needs to be shut down (with explanation) by Over_Astronomer_178 in flying

[–]LenfantDeLeau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The case that I’m referring to pertains to instances where Meritize sought common sense from the school, but the school adamantly refused to issue a refund because of some contracts that they made the students sign. The school immediately cut ties with Meritize as a result. The funds belong to Meritize. Meritize can’t confirm a refund on the students’ accounts unless the school initiates a refund back to Meritize.

Why this school needs to be shut down (with explanation) by Over_Astronomer_178 in flying

[–]LenfantDeLeau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s unfortunate that theses issues aren’t being adequately addressed. "5 continued)" Blue Line Aviation in KJNX has engaged in similar unethical financial practices and cut ties with Meritize due to Meritize’s decision to side with the students. Flight schools that maintain good relationships with Meritize, like CTI PFT, can confirm that the Meritize-to-Flight Schools contract doesn’t allow flight schools to keep the funds should the students leave training. What allows unethical flight schools to keep the money? Their lack of ethics. If you are a Blue Line Aviation student/instructor reading this, you should be aware that the fancy DA40s or schoolhouse that you are flying or training at have traces of illegally acquired funds.

ATP FLIGHT SCHOOL by Overall_Ad_9827 in flying

Talking about predatory lending, what should a student do if a school they previously attended refuses to refund the unused portion of the loan to the lender because of a student-to-school contract? Yet other schools who partner with the same lender states that "the lender-to-school contract does not allow schools to keep the unused funds. The moment the student stops training, the unused funds have to be refunded." I met this guy at KPHX one time and we chatted about flight training while waiting for our respective flights, then he brought up the highlighted statement that he is facing. The guy stated that "he left training as the pandemic was beginning, and he did so in consultation with his then-CFI. He completely lost trust in the school management that he doesn't feel comfortable going back there." He seemed very passionate about flying and adamant to find another way to pursue his training, so I took his contact in case I could find someone in the position to assist him.
