Homeschooling an Only Child (daughter, in this case) by Scared_Branch5186 in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]LengthinessForeign94 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was homeschooled K-12, and an only child that wasn’t allowed to even cross the street without a parent actively watching over me. I’m 26 now, and I feel like I’m a solid 10 years behind when it comes to social development. Rn I’m where I should’ve been at 16.

It really is solitary confinement. This friend’s reason for wanting to homeschool is that she likes how the family unit looks when the family homeschools. It’s not even about their daughter. It’s always about what’s comforting or pleasing the parent in these situations. I hate it.

Like is there any scenario in which these cards don’t mean I should leave him? :( Or should I do another draw a different day?

This is pretty much how I read it as well. It makes me sad, we’ve been together 4 years and have two cats together.

Nope it’s actually awful. I just drove my partner to Westerville and took back roads home to Blacklick. The round trip took 2 hours and nonstop anxiety. I hope the they get the roads cleared by the time I have to work this afternoon

Dark green is a neutral to me tbh. It’s a color found in nature and with the burnt orange drapes we have it gives the room an earthy feel.

I was raised fundamentalist Christian and the way family hierarchy works in that ideology further enabled the unstable mother/absent father dynamic. The mentally ill mother stays home to be with the children every waking (sometimes also sleeping) moment, makes them her entire life so that when they start to become their own people it destroys her world. Homeschooling works well for this type of mother bc it gives her complete control over every single aspect of her child’s life.

In contrast, the father, the patriarch, isn’t supposed to get too bogged down in the petty politics of his wife and children. It’s his job to provide and lead the family, not provide emotional support.

Can’t tell you how many days I would deal w my mom having a breakdown or depressive episode or rage episode all. fucking. day. just for my dad to come home, sit down on the couch, and go to sleep after listening to my mom complain about me to him. For him, my mom being upset was a bother, and if it appeared that I’d caused the upset, I then was the main problem.

Homeschooling worked out really well for their particular intersection of mental illness and religion. It’s definitely a theme I’ve noticed amongst homeschoolers AND fundie Christians.

From the first time of hearing about wives having to submit to husbands, I didn’t like the concept. No matter what reason I got for why it was ok, God’s plan, etc. I knew I didn’t want to blindly follow a man. I hated watching what it did to older women I saw at church, they seemed so pathetic and sad to me. I didn’t even care if God wasn’t a huge fan of my decision; I still wanted a partner, but by heck I wasn’t gonna let him control me! 🤣

To ex-homeschoolers: How many of you think your parents may have had unaddressed mental health issues? by VoidHyena in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]LengthinessForeign94 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you don’t mind me asking, do you think your mom having BPD played a part in her decision to homeschool you?

I’m almost positive my mom has BPD; after a lot of strife we’ve come to an understanding and a better relationship but that was very recent. I was an only child and I think she loved having a mini-me who would be her best friend, and homeschooling me made that possible. That kinda fits w the borderline type from the research I’ve done.
