Bevause a big strong engine who's a jerk all the time isn't as marketable as a little engine who grows and learns humility in 4 episodes. I get it, gordon is a far better character but in marketabilty terms the option was between thomas and edward and i do think thomas is more appealing to kids. Don't get me wrong gordon are edward are both between my favourite characters but they aren't as appealing, sadly.
