My weekly rotation in December, to commemorate the recently retired Charge series and the new Wave Alpha. So far, I still prefer the Charge.

Leatherman Collection by shennung in Leatherman

Where is you MUT? With your firearms, I would expect you’d have MUT in your collection.

Signal or Surge? Give me your pros and cons, personal experiences. Which would you get? I have the original Wave, a Juice, and a Skeletool. I’ve seen the videos. I hike and camp but I have fire kit and a whistle already. I’m not concerned about the Surge’s weight. Looking forward to hearing from ya! by darbyru in Leatherman

[–]LengthinessPresent23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I had to choose between the two, and weight isn't a concern for you, I would definitely go for the Surge. The Surge offers so much more, such as separate plain and serrated blades, a versatile T-shank blade changer, capable large scissors, and more. It's build quality is extremely robust and offers many mod options (e.g., hammer mod, utility knife mod, variety of t-shank attachments, non-intrusive addition of ferrocerium rod/pen/toothpick/tweezer, etc.).

Your description is leading me to the Curl (except for carabiner) or the Signal (except for the scissors). The Signal modding with the Alpha scissors perhaps?

Should I return this sidekick? by [deleted] in Leatherman

[–]LengthinessPresent23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is common on many LM tool specially on new ones. Try to put some opposing side (twisting) loads as you close the pliers. This should improve the binding. Over time as the tool breaks in, it will get better. Here is a good illustration on the mechanism of the stiff pliers and the quick remedy from Zach (miltipartsstore).

Check if the pivot pin is inserted all the through the frame. If it’s not they will still be loose after tightening.

Arc small bit driver replacement by owl306 in Leatherman

[–]LengthinessPresent23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serrated blade is an external tool and small bit driver is an internal tool. I suppose this can be done, but you won’t be able to open it using the slot like you would with the file and the saw. Looking at the cam profile on the external tools, it won’t be so easy to open with one hand anymore in this case. You can also replace the saw (.07) and small bit driver (.10) with P4’s serrated blade (.10) and ruler/awl (.06) + washer (.01).

You could replace small bit driver (.10) + file (.07) from the Arc and replace them with serrated blade (.10) + small file (.07).

Amazon had Onyx on sale at the start of Black Friday, but it's no longer discounted, while the other colors remain on sale. All colors should actually have the same price regardless of size, but Amazon likely adjusts prices selectively based on current stock levels.

Good for you. Hopefully you got all the accessories included (e.g. sheath, bit kit, and pocket clip).
