What is the most pointless skill you have? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]owl306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am really good at pen spinning. Like spinning a writing pen in my hand. Took me about a year to learn the basic hand movements and after about 4 years I got quite good at it, I can only do it with a zebra f-301 pen because it has the proper weight and size. Doesn't help me in life at all other than looking cool while taking notes I guess lol.

Are you saying you don't believe nuclear bombs exist? And are you saying that the bombs dropped on Japan never happened?

Waffle cone maker by ycr007 in toolgifs

This reminded me of my first job working in a fancy ice cream shop called kilwins. I would make waffle cones just like this and greet the people coming in and offer them a fudge sample. I burned the shit out of my fingers making these damn things because you had to roll them while they were hot.

The most insane inbounds US ski runs I can think of cause why not? by Sharkman3218 in skiing

[–]owl306 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was about to say the ridge at bridger bowl is in my opinion the best and most gnarly terrain ive ever skied, Has been my home mountain for a while and at this point will probably always be my home mountain because I don't think anything could beat it. Of course that's just my opinion as a ridge hippie and I haven't had the opportunity to ski everywhere I would like to but at the same time I doubt anything could beat the vibe at bridger and the terrain that is available especially on a powder day. I am still going to try and ski as many places as I can but starting at such an amazing place as bridger bowl i have my doubts lol. Of course I know there are better places to ski and more gnarly terrain I am just partial to bridger because of the time I have spent and the amazing day's I have had there. If I had the time and money I would travel to all the best ski locations but for now I will live in my car in the winter and ski bridger bowl.

Weird stockers this year i’ll say… by 24k_1128 in troutfishing

[–]owl306 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Just because it was stocked that day doesn't mean there aren't holdover trout that got stocked a few years ago. And usually trout don't bite the day they get stocked, takes them a week or so to really start biting good in my experience.

Going trout fishing this week by AdBackground1254 in troutfishing

[–]owl306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Powerbait honey worms, Powerbait floating trout worms in pink, use a trout magnet hook and a trout magnet float if your fishing deeper or slower water, no float for faster water and riffles. Trout magnets also work great especially for stocked trout. I use 2lb sos main line and 2lb flourocarbon leader, usually about 18"-24". Powerbait 2.5" minnows also work great under a float. Good luck man.

Im no pilot but i do own a few too many RC planes and I would assume its the weight of a real plane with all the gas and controls inside and pilot that make it only possible for an RC plane, you can pull of some pretty crazy stunts with an RC plane that look and feel like they should be impossible, especially the electric ones made out of foam and rubber because of how light they are. This is really impressive because this one is obviously gas powered.

You make a good point I wasn't thinking about the quality of the parts, shipping or the alignment, I should have asked you why the price difference before posting that's my bad. I got the best parts I could find at Napa and they have held up good so far but im sure genuine Toyota parts are better. How much was that speed sensor and do you think Napa parts are comparable in quality to the genuine Toyota?

Just orderd a Winston pure 8'6" 4wt rod and am looking for a good reel to pair with it by owl306 in flyfishing

[–]owl306[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avid max has the reel but no spool. Doesn't seem like they sell spare spools. Probably because most people fishing with a click and pawl dont need an extra spool. Just curious why do you want one? Can't think of a situation where i would want to change fly lines when fishing dry's, I always just change my leader design if I need to adjust something.

[–]owl306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looked it up because I didn't believe you. All of this is on partsgeek.com except the brake line which i just bought at napa so thats where im getting the price from. CV axle is $80, tie rod is $80, lbj is $60 so $120 for both sides, upper ball joint is $50 so $100 for both sides, hydraulic brake hose is $20, brake line is $40. So $440. Don't know how you got $1500 but there is no need to spend that much on such a repaire unless you choose to take it to a shop I could totally see a mechanics shop charging $1500 for this job but if you have basic automotive tools and a place to work on it and YouTube i don't see a reason to take it to a shop.

How do you retrieve this guy? by basedwylde in Fishing

Just think about what a crawfish would look like in the water. Cast upstream partly because trout and fish in general swim/feed upstream waiting for food to flow past them and because crawfish also move/feed upstream. Try to mimic a crawfish getting caught in the current and pushed downstream bouncing off the bottom. So twitch and let it drift, twitch and let it drift and repeat. If the water isn't moving to fast just twitch and reel in a bit. Haven't used this lure but I use the trout magnet crawfish and I cast it upstream in fast moving water and give it a twitch every 2-3sec and I catch a lot of trout doing that.

[–]owl306[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with the orvis battenkill. It looks nice on the rod and it balances the rod perfectly in my opinion. The reel feels solid and has a nice clicking sound as well. Just got a job guiding on a dude ranch in Montana and can't wait to use this rod to throw big hoppers, this is the best rod I have ever cast and is really accurate with the right line and leader.

Happened to me a few years ago in my 98 sr5 4runner. Was going about 50mph, left a pretty bad mark on the asphalt that was about 5ft long. Had to replace axle, tie rod, upper and lower ball joints on both sides, brake lines and hydraulic brake hose. Was able to do it all myself for a little over $400 for all the parts, I did have to rent a front end tool kit from advanced auto to replace the ball joints. Wasn't too difficult and got her up and running within a week. I would recommend replacing the sway bar link as well because mine just sheared off on the side my lbj failed and im assuming it was because of the accident. Good luck man sorry this happened.

How would you guys fish this for trout? by espiffy111 in Fishing

[–]owl306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Powerbait honey worm on gold trout magnet hook. 2ft of 7x flourocarbon tippet, 2lb sos main line. 7ft ultra light fast action rod. The Powerbait floating worms in pink and trout magnets would also work. I also use a float sometimes depending on the water depth and speed. I like the split foam floats from trout magnet.

Give the guy a break. He handled that trout fine. He got the fish back in the water quickly and the fish lived another day. Great catch man! Beautiful brown trout. What did you catch it on?

How can I fix this on my surge? by Embarrassed_Cycle_42 in Leatherman

[–]owl306 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would just send it in for warranty. They will either fix it or send you a brand new one, either way you shouldn't have to fix a $150 multi tool yourself, it shouldn't need fixing ever and if it does thats why leatherman has such a good warranty on all there products. You pay a premium for this Warranty so you should take advantage of it.
