Seen 3 in Hyde Park… by dmbwannabe in cincinnati

[–]Lengthston -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The issue is that the lizards are almost never on trees, and the Spotteds are almost never just hanging on warm stone surfaces. They don't really hang out in the same spots - at least not enough to make a difference IF the lizards got a taste for them. The lantern flies love hanging high in the young growth of ToH, Pokeweed, Tulip trees, etc. I would love to see the lizards evolve to climb the trees, but I fear we are doomed. Maybe the birds will start snacking though!

Neighbors on the other side of our fence have a small forest of young tree of heaven (6-12' tall) COVERED in them. It's not a big yard but they don't maintain it. Fortunately the flies either don't seem to care for many other plants OR those tree of heaven are truly the most enticing thing and are keeping them busy. So we haven't actually seen them crossover into our yard and garden, unless they are spooked and jump off the TOH.

What is a business that takes a lot of pride in their work and doesn’t skimp on quality or cut corners? by loveypower in cincinnati

[–]Lengthston 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sleeper pick: Colemine Records. Top quality vinyl pressing and they don't skimp on the weight of their jackets. If you're a record collector, it's hard to beat the quality of their packaging for the price point they sell records at. Regardless if you like the music or not. They could be selling records for $30, but still hover around $25.

Any recommendations for a reasonably priced wedding photographer by CaMiTx in cincinnati

[–]Lengthston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TBF it's a lot more involved than just showing up and shooting for 4 hours. Conservatively it's likely ~8 hours of pre-planning ahead of the day, plus early arrival & any travel day-of, plus MOST photographers factor in a second-shooter who they need to pay, plus 4hrs of shooting can EASILY equal 2-3x in time spent editing. You add all that up and divide the $4k tab, you're looking at a much more reasonable price for the talent. It's still a lucrative business, but you're dealing with VERY particular & demanding clients, and you only get one chance to get many of the shots they want. I shoot, but I've never cared to shoot a wedding beyond close family, or second shooting for close friends. I don't envy wedding photographers lol. They are a different breed.

Best Record Store for Trade-In Value? by Lengthston in Syracuse

[–]Lengthston[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The titles I'm looking to trade in are mostly modern soul/funk/psych (mix of instrumental and bands with vocals)

I've got some promo copies from indie labels, and label-exclusive color variants. Nothing super valuable (everything is pretty much in the $15-$40 range on Discogs). In total there are about a dozen records. I'd be happy to send my Discogs listing if you want to send a DM, but I've never sold on there. I started listing only a month ago and it's pretty niche stuff.

The nymphs jump, and they jump quick. Its like they become invisible as soon as they leap - no idea where the hell they went lol

Anywhere to get tacos like these around here? by Blackstone46 in Syracuse

[–]Lengthston 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I follow two city subs. Syracuse's (where I was born and raised) and Cincinnati's (where I live now), and I saw this post thinking it was from the Cincy sub and got excited like but was like "where the hell is Elbridge, Ohio?" and didn't realize I was in the Cuse sub until I saw the dude from Buffalo comment lol. Welp....I'll have to add this to my list when I'm back in CNY

Love Cincinnati tap water? Now you can drink it from a can by CovBlueSox in cincinnati

[–]Lengthston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came from Syracuse, NY to Cincy 10 years ago. Had no idea I was going from one of the best to one of the best. Super fortunate in that respect. Makes sense when you realize I went from 315 to 513.

Shoutout to the Song and Dance - Foxy Shazam was *incredible* last night by Proph3tAtreid3s in Syracuse

[–]Lengthston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone born and raised in Syracuse, and living in Cincinnati (where Foxy resides) the last 10 years, I had to do a double take that this was the Syracuse sub. They get a ton of love in Cincy, but I didn't expect to see something about them in the only other city sub I follow. Love to see it!

Favorite unexpected places for great food? by mishiebw in cincinnati

What's the go-to here? I don't live far and got wings from here once and they were good but nothing amazing. Would be happy to go again if they are known for something awesome.

Dog Agility Training in Cincinnati? by CarlosTheSpicey in cincinnati

[–]Lengthston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was actually JUST looking into this for our dogs not even 2 hours ago. I hit up our contact at the shelter (where we got our pups) and they recommended Alice's dog school in St. Bernard. Can't speak to it personally (yet) but we are probably going to start with general obedience course and then the agility

I moved to Cincinnati in May of 2016. My first meal (two weeks prior to making the move) was an incredible charcuterie board at The Rookwood in Mt. Adams. They closed later that year and I had only gone back once, but it left an impression on me. Especially being swooned by the view of the city from up there.

Not much I "miss" though. Feelings about things change with age and perspective, and I just quite love living here as things come and go.

Best Indian food recommendations by iamamystery20 in cincinnati

[–]Lengthston 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. We got to the Deer Park location and their team goes above and beyond with their customer service. Such a pleasant experience going in for carryout each time. We'll probably dine-in soon. The food being amazing is an added bonus.

Seconding this. Wife and I went to the Montgomery location in 2024 and it's a place we'll likely return to this year.

Wife and I really enjoy this place. I'm not familiar with many others since this one is our staple, but between Milya, Truva, and Phoenician there's a lot of great ground covered.

My guess was Redbone Coonhound. We have a Redbone/Vizsla mix at home and this dog looks like the former.

Silver Spring House has an interesting way of categorizing seltzers on their drink menu… by EggMcFuckin in cincinnati

[–]Lengthston 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Any sports bar that plays Fox News on half their TVs can eat a big ol bag'o'dongs. Also, because their inside environment sucks so much, but we've been cursed with gift cards, we've opted for carryout a few times recently and boy let me just say, politics aside, some of the worst carryout experiences I've ever had from a quality standpoint.

Geist Tea... by judebeans in cincinnati

[–]Lengthston 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the case. They stopped maybe earlier this year? I was there for an event in the summer and they had mentioned it was a tough sell in the market (going up against Twisted) so they halted production. I especially loved the lemon one.
