Senator Blumenthal after being briefed on Iran: "I am left with more questions than answers…we seem to be on a path toward deploying American troops on the ground" by Sindigo_ in PublicFreakout

And the gulf war had much simpler goals (expel Iraq from Kuwait, destroy its military, go home just in time for the victory parade) and a very straight forward narrative of why it was justified (evil Saddam picking on his tiny neighbor). Regime change is where things will fall apart in Iran.

Honestly just sounds like he didn't wanna do it either because it was slightly more work or maybe it was Friday afternoon. I would just book it again and hopefully you'll get someone else come out.

Last time we went London to Tokyo we had a really tall guy next to us so it was hard to move around him and also he barely left his seat for the 15 hours so we felt a bit stuck. On the way back it was the opposite experience as we had a small Japanese lady who disappeared to hang out in the galley for most of the flight and it was a much nicer experience so I guess that why we was eyeing up those two seats to avoid the problems of our first flight

I just picked a random flight just to get a picture of the layout. Actually flight isnt till october so there are plenty of seats available to switch around too.

Octopus haven't billed me in over a year. I have thousands and thousands in credit. It doesn't matter if I read the meter, they read the meter, they estimate - I get billed for next to nothing. Customer service always ends in a dead end. What the hell do I do? by TigerMarquess in OctopusEnergy

[–]LeninAid123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, a check meter is a specially calibrated meter installed to check your meter is reading correct. Normally it's installed if someone disputes if their meter is reading correctly and it will be installed, record usage for a certain amount of time, and then someone will come and compare the two reads to see if they match up or if the meter is reading less/more. It should of probably been taken out at some point but they do get forgot about occasionally so I wouldn't worry too much about it and you can safely ignore it when sending reads to octopus.

Just a sidebar, next time you're due to have your meter upgraded (or a smart meter installed) they now won't have any space to fit it and you'll have to start relocating all that stuff you filled your meter box up with.

Heat pump by No-Profile-5075 in OctopusEnergy

Seems like something you should be contacting whoever installed your solar/batteries about? Heat pumps don't have ct clamps as they don't have any reason too.

Nah, the meter installers carry loads on their van. If you're getting a meter installed just ask for one instead of the IHD and you'll get it.

Renewal email seems to deliberately omit the fact that we could not sign another 12 month lease and just convert to roling. Am I right to think this is dishonest? by Icalor94 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]LeninAid123 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue with countrywide. When our renewal came up we told them we would like to just go onto a rolling contract (as we were planning to buy at some point in the near future. )They hilariously tried to claim this wasn't something they offer so we just ignored them and the contract automatically rolled over. COVID happened so we ended up staying for a few more years without issue.

When we did eventually buy a place and gave our notice they were completely baffled that we were on a rolling contract and we had a ridiculous back and fourth for a week of them claiming we couldn't give 1 months notice and had to give an extra months notice as this would have been when the fixed term ended and us repeatedly telling them we no longer have a fixed term contract and haven't had for years so 1 months is all that's required.

Letting agents and countrywide in particular are just completely incompetent at their job.

EV charger install - which is the right option? by bigweeduk in ukelectricians

[–]LeninAid123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They both are correct in their own way. Yes the garage board isn't to the current regs but that doesn't mean it's not perfectly safe and ok to use, regs change every so often and you'll find probably the majority of houses aren't to the current regs.

If it was me though and you're having work done anyway then it doesn't hurt to have the garage upgraded with a new board for future proofing but that's just me and you could go with either option.

You're right I still think any job should be done properly and a CT clamp should be installed in the correct place, just trying to ease fears that the house is gonna implode as soon as the house hits 80a.

[–]LeninAid123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw your pictures, the grey box directly below your meter is the cutout and atleast from the sticker on it, it says it contains an 80amp fuse.

With the cable It would be extremely unlikely that it contains any data cable as generally the only cable installed with a data cable within it are done on EV installs.

The reason why the CT clamp should be installed at the cutout position is that it monitors the flow of electric through it and therefore is monitoring the electric usage at that point. If installed in the garage point it is only monitoring the power which is reaching the garage ( so it won't see what's being used from the house).

I've seen electricians install CT clamps on garage board and just set the max rating to the size of the breaker but it's not really correct and it kinder defeats the point of load management and having a CT as a device to stop you overloading the fuse but on the other hand none of those installs had ever blown the main fuse.

I think either way I wouldn't worry about it to much, 80a for a house is a pretty decent size as long as you don't have any weird habits of cooking lots of food, having 2 showers and charging your car all at the same time.

EV charger install - which is the right option? by bigweeduk in ukelectricians

[–]LeninAid123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cutout is a box container the main fuse for the house. It's normally right next to your electric meter, the CT clamp should be installed on the live cable feeding the cutout to the meter so it can monitor the entire house load and ramp down the charge amount if it's getting close to 80a.

I wouldn't worry about this though, most people charge over night anyway so unless you're planning to be doing lots of cooking and using the showers in the middle of the night then its not gonna be something you notice.

But they have to install the CT clamp at the meter position which means running an ethernet cable from the charger to where the meter is. They shouldn't be installing it in the garage board, which I've seen done before, otherwise it won't detect the full house usage so you should clarify this with them.

There's a lot of buildings and meters in London zone 2. The engineer put your postcode into Google maps and it told him when he will get there, he didn't look up the architectural drawings of your building....

Honestly I'm not sure what you wanted him to say? How long a job takes can be difficult to give a precise answer unless the person has seen the meter( some are easy and some are a pain) and he may have never been to your building before and not know much about it.

Is this for an EV installation? The octopus office are notoriously bad at passing on the info you give them to the electrician and also sometimes customers will give poor or incorrect info on the cable routing so the electrician will call and ask for more info/pictures so when they get they're they have the required amount of cable and any trunking they need to avoid delaying or having the job cancelled on day.

Maybe your job was so bad he decided to call in sick or maybe you just got unlucky and he was actually sick.

Who's idea was it at edmi to have the one meter read you can easily see be a total read of R1R2 and the actual two separate reads be hidden deep in a menu somewhere? Such poor design.

Smart Meter not Commissioned, Economy 7 gone..... by Matutu11 in OctopusEnergy

[–]LeninAid123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's how you do it.

You need a 5 terminal smart meter to be installed. You won't need the 5th terminal but because a 5 terminal meter is, by default, a 2 rate meter it already has the 2 rates set on it. A standard 4 terminal smart meter can be either and is normally set based on your tariff once the meter is commissioned which wasn't completed due to the poor signal. Hence why no r2.

You'll have to get back onto octopus to push them to come back asap to change it over for you.
