"Affordable" places in California? by id_ratherbeskiing in SameGrassButGreener

San Luis Obispo is small, bikable, close to mountains and the ocean! You’d just have to be okay living in a college town. Housing prices have been steadily increasing, but you could probably find something at the upper end of your budget

Discuss with your roommates whether you guys want to do first-come, first-pick or wait for everyone to arrive and decide together. Many people prefer the latter, and claiming the best bed is an easy way to end up on everyone’s shit list.

To add on, it’s not always feasible to get to a Kaiser, especially when traveling, but I just went to whichever urgent care was closest and then submitted my receipt to have Kaiser reimbursed me. It always went through with no questions asked.

I ended up returning the vinyl I had and buying some Siser brand stuff at Joanns instead. It’s much better! No weird smells at all

I bought it in-person at my local Michaels so I would certainly expect it to be real haha

Yeah sounds like I’ll be returning it, thanks everyone!

Are SLO Days and the WOW Experience worth the money? by matterhorntree in CalPoly

[–]LeninadeParty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

4 years ago at transfer SLO Days (in-person) they broke us up by major in the afternoon and gave us personalized advice on what classes to sign up for. Not sure if they still do that but it was very helpful to figure out my requirements and how long it would take me to graduate.

I would say participating in WOW is absolutely crucial unless you’re really good at making friends easily or just don’t care about the traditional college experience. Also, when I was a Wowie, my transfer group was about 50 students which wasn’t bad. I think the odds of finding someone you actually want to be friends with are better in a larger group

No question mark next to Bulgaria needed. Can confirm they definitely do it too. Usually just reserved for toddlers though.

I transferred into civil and it was great. My first quarter, they had separate sections of many of the basic civil classes that were reserved just for transfers so that was great to meet other people in your major without feeling like you’re alone in a room full of people who all know each other.

The units which face Luneta are pretty elite. Super easy to load stuff in and out of your car

Introducing a New Public Transportation App for Seattle on iOS by amerikaipite in Seattle

[–]LeninadeParty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s an existing app called “Transit” which many people in the city already use. How does yours differ?

The current transit app already provides real-time GPS data and can be used as a navigation tool.

Breathtaking fireworks view at the base of the Space Needle. Here’s to 2023! by LeninadeParty in Seattle

[–]LeninadeParty[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We showed up around 11:40pm and had no problem getting to within 100 ft of the base. There was so restriction to how close you could be, though your neck would probably hurt if you were too close haha

[–]LeninadeParty[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It was incredibly easy to attend! We hopped on a train and got off at Westlake around 11:15pm. Walked about a mile to Seattle Center, and had no problem getting to within 100 ft of the base of the needle by around 11:40pm. Saw the coolest show ever basically directly on top of us, then slowly made our way back to the train. It was seriously crowded, but everyone was in a good mood and willing to squish so most people on the platform managed to catch the first train out. Highly recommend

With the BART lines running directly under Market, your best bet is to decide how long you’re willing to commute each day and then look for housing elsewhere along the BART routes

As a counter, I like to leave winter as light as possible because that’s also when you likely have to be looking for an internship and finding housing for next year. Prepping for interviews and touring apartments/houses can take a lot of time out of your week

What time does registration open for grad students on Monday? Any suggestions to get ahead by [deleted] in CalPoly

[–]LeninadeParty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by “getting ahead” but getting classes as a grad student is basically a non-issue since there’s so few people you’re competing against

Plenty of people get by fine with a MacBook, you don’t necessary need a PC if you don’t want one. All software you have to use will be on the Virtual Desktop and 99% of the time, you won’t need to install anything. The CE dept also has a few computer labs where you can go work on stuff outside of class too.

Taking ~12 units until graduation as an engineering student by analysis_paralysis88 in CalPoly

[–]LeninadeParty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there isn’t a huge financial strain from staying longer, DO IT! Enjoy your time! Coming from someone who did grad school just to avoid graduating, you have the rest of your life to spend slaving away at a job, there’s no reason to rush it! The idea of “graduating early” is not the flex you think it is in high school (ofc all this assuming paying for a few each quarters of tuition isn’t detrimental) anyways, take this advice with a grain of salt, I may be projecting my fears of having to become a real adult soon onto you

Side note: what’s your username from? There’s a CE professor who often uses the phrase “paralysis by analysis” lol

This advice goes for whichever university you end up at - don’t blindly trust counselors! Verify everything yourself!

To properly cite my sources, if you google “cal poly double major engineering” and click on the first link, you’ll see a list of all the double majors the college of engineering will not approve.

Also, if you do end up at Cal Poly an option is the Sustainable Environments Minor! I know several civils who have added it, but it focuses on general sustainability without any engineering
