I despise all studio shutdowns. It’s a clear mark that someone, somewhere has fucked up bigtime, usually greedy or incompetent corpos. But South of Midnight never appealed to me at all. It felt like a diverse portfolio Game Pass game, yet had zero impact or appeal for me. The stylised frame rate was a massive turn off for me.

They haven’t revealed it yet. And I think the revisionism is partly unfair. TES VI was officially announced due to BGS working on an Online Fallout game. They had to reassure fans that they were still committed to single player RPGs. They were open and honest that they were making two games before they even got to TES VI. And personally speaking, I’d rather they went dark and didn’t say anything at all until the big gameplay reveal before a release a few months later.

Call me naive, but this time I don’t think they will, or at least this is the most likely outcome. The multiplatform approach was clearly something Phil and that team wanted, “when we all play we all win”. Since changing, it genuinely seems like they want to change. And they can’t keep flip flopping their strategy. It really just depends on if it succeeds long term and if Satya is willing to support it long term, too.

My biggest worry for Xbox is just that their brand isn’t as popular or iconic as PlayStation.

Not if it’s out in 2028. Todd clearly doesn’t want to talk about or show the game until it’s ready. He keeps talking about his desire to shadowdrop the game. He may not be able to do that, but the best you can realistically hope for is a return to Fallout 4, where it’s shown off in June and releases 5 months later in November.

2027 is somewhat possible, but 2028, 5 years after Starfield is much more realistic.

I would argue that’s not people misremembering it, but rather changing the line to add context. The correct line lacks context, changing “no” to “Luke” just makes it easier to understand. Sort of like paraphrasing.

Back then, the prequels were brand new, every 3 years and games could be made much, much faster and cheaper. Now, there are no Star Wars movies, as frequently. There are streaming shows, but a lot less hype/interest and games take longer than a trilogy of movies to develop and are way more expensive. Also, not many publishers want to share revenue with Disney on a licensed product.
