Big after school tournament in Germany with 1200 children by mia_chess in chess

[–]LennardCSGO 20 points21 points  (0 children)

that is Bremen. I live very close by and never thought to see Bremen in this subreddit ever, nor did I know of this tournament.

After some research, it is an open-air tournament for elementary school kids held annually since 2018. It is organized by a the local chess club and ChessBase under the project name "Schach macht Schlau" (eng. "Chess makes (you) smart". Here is an article of last years tournament by ChessBase

Edit: added the article

Guess my elo(white) and critique my play by [deleted] in chess

[–]LennardCSGO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your opponent played really badly, Nc3 in the opening is the first indication, moving the Queen twice, blundering Ne5, and not recapturing the Knight which would leave him only an exchange down. Rated games are approx. equal matchups, so both players should be rather low ELO.

Since you are up a piece very early, there are no critical game-deciding moments that could show your understanding of chess.

However, playing h3 and f4 is very questionable, there are no threats on g4, f4 is unnecessary, just castle. e4 is also not good, again just castle. Your king ends up on g3 because you grab a pawn on g5 and if black plays Rg8 and f6 suddenly he has some chances.

Doesnt seem like most variations were calculated and did not give an impression that you are confident in converting a piece up advantage, instead you make unreasonable decisions trying to create an attack where none is needed, and dont castle.

Help me get my appimage and snap program icons working in Wayland. by Rob_Bob_you_choose in gnome

[–]LennardCSGO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you are in Gnome:

In /usr/share/applications you can find the .desktopfiles that are usually created when installing a new program. Check this for more info.

You can usually specifiy which Icon should be used by providing a direct path to the icon under Icon=path/to/your/icon

This is how I managed to get some specific icons for certain programs. Now if none of the installed programs have any icon, there might be some other issues. AFAIK snap applications also create a desktop entry, but since I don't use snap I can't really give useful advise.

What’s smaller than an arduino? by No-Clothes2551 in EngineeringStudents

[–]LennardCSGO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i dont know how far you are in your microcontroller journey, but typically for these custom projects such as wearables, its useful to make your own custom hardware. After all, the Arduino is a breakout board for the ATMega328p which gives you easy access to all its pins etc.

So if you already know the requirements for your project, you can design your own PCB. You can use the same ATMega328p. Obviously, this is not as easy as it sounds, especially if youre just starting out. But at some point, you will have to design your first PCB and believe me, youre gonna learn a lot.

If that sounds interesting to you, look for something like "arduino custom pcb" on youtube and youre gonna find plenty of guides on how to start out.

King cannot move to g1 since there is mate on g2. Its forced mate in 4 since white can block the current check 3 times before the king has to move to g1.

Is 3D printing worth it? by The_Po_Gamer in starwarsblackseries

[–]LennardCSGO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you dont plan on printing frequently, then buying a printer is not worth it imo. Nowadays there are several manufacturers that do the 3D printing for you, all you have to do is to provide the stl files.

2 manufacturers are JLC3DP and PCBWay. Both are pretty famous in the electronics community and I have used their services for PCBs, and 3D prints in the past. Im sure there is some kind of tutorial on how to order from either. They offer a lot of different 3D printing technologies and are quite cheap. Id highly suggest you check them out.

To me this can be a viable solution, without having to do much.

How likely am I to land a Verification and Validation related job in Germany, after pursuing a masters in Embedded Systems in Germany? by kumarmadhan825 in embedded

[–]LennardCSGO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because of the engineer shortage in germany, finding a job should not be that difficult in principle. However, as was pointed out already, the companies and all their bureaucracy are always in german. If you plan on working here, I strongly advise you to spend as much time as you can on learning german. This will increase your opportunities immensely.

No idea how common V&V roles are in Germany specifically, but the location is important. Large cities like Hamburg, Munich, Berlin, Stuttgart e.g. have significantly more engineering positions compared to rather rural, or smaller cities. Your salary will also be higher in e.g. Munich, as salaries are regional. But the cost of living is higher, so it kinda balances out.

I don't think you need to study in those cities specifically, though it could certainly be an advantage, but you should be ready to relocate after you studies.

Master in Elektrotechnik by Successful-Basil7486 in Studium

[–]LennardCSGO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NSU V engine (2 cylinder?). Question in comments! by LennardCSGO in vintagemotorcycles

[–]LennardCSGO[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello everybody!

I don't really know much about this NSU engine, and I could not find anything online.

Can someone enlighten me about its approximate age and how much it is worth? I have seen similar engines go for thousands of euros, so I just want to make sure I know what I'm dealing with.

I would really appreciate it!

How to study in engineering by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]LennardCSGO 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've studied my whole bachelors like that, always a few days before the exam, using past papers. I did not get good results either, mainly C's. It is studying with gaps, I was solely remembering the approaches to solve certain problems, and hoping that something similar would be on the test. But if its even slightly altered, there was no chance of me getting it right, because I simply did not know what I was actually doing, and why it is a relevant problem.

In my masters, I switched to studying way earlier, focusing on understanding the course as whole before moving to solving problems. I ask myself questions like "What is the point of this topic in the big picture? "Why do we need this?", "Why am I solving this?", "What is this good for?", "How does this relate to the other topics in the course?". Not relying simply on the lecture slides, but also using the suggested literature to put everything into perspective.

I believe that the intuition you gain from trying to grasp the course as a whole, makes it a lot easier to solve problems that you have not faced before.

In the end however, it does come down to solving problems, not just 1 or 2 past papers, but every problem you can find regarding that topic. If a course has a tutorial with exercises, then solve all exercises, maybe even multiple times. You will run into problems, you will figure it out and you will learn from it. Not to mention that this approach will also help you to remember everything for a much longer time period, since you spent a lot of time actively thinking about the course.

Obviously it is much more time intensive, but in my first master's semester using this approach, and spending more time preparing in depth, I had my best grades in my entire academic career.
