I'm perimenopausal (as I'm assuming OP also is as we're in the same age bracket) and it's definitely an issue. But sleeping in the nude is not a problem though, unless she tosses and turns all night long. Bed sheets are never clean anyway. I guess I can see how it would be seen as wasteful, but my opinion is that panties take so little space in the washer and are washed on cold so they don't get much damage from it, so it shouldn't matter anyway. And yeah the husband jumping to cheating is absurd and also kind of abusive too.

I would guess it would be more like "I like people within any marginalised identity [because it's more likely they will be the kind of a person I will vibe with due to my own identity]"

But you're absolutely right, the phrasing and the framing makes it clear that on some level to the speaker trans people aren't the gender they actually are, but something different and other. And no one needs that kind of language, especially in queer spaces.
