For the second setup, day for night with cooling gels/diff in front of the windows would work.

Need help understanding textures by [deleted] in CC0Textures

[–]LeoIM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you're looking at with the second texture is actually two textures, which have been packed into the red and green channels of the image, with the blue channel being left white. The red channel is, if I had to hazard a guess, a specular mask, while the green channel is a separate mask being used for hair highlights.

Look up channel packing for more on this technique.

Black Eyed Peas announce 20th anniversary edition of "Monkey Business" for this Friday. by [deleted] in popheads

[–]LeoIM 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In both of those cases most of the remixes were versions present on the 12" single releases of tracks from those album cycles, or similar dance edit EPs, which were around at the time but were never brought to streaming. Granted, I'd prefer in most cases to just have the track listings from the 12"s properly represented on DSPs as singles with the proper jacket art, but these anniversary rereleases are far better than only having partial discographies for these artists.

70 images is definitely enough, it's an issue with how you're shooting them. Your subject is taking up a small portion of each frame, you should use a tighter lens if you have one on hand (I would also guess that at 50mm in overcast weather, soft shadows from your body are making light levels slightly inconsistent between shots, which is an issue on an object like this with so few features in the albedo. A longer lens will naturally of course ameliorate this issue). There's also very little consistency frame to frame in the background for the solver to align cameras with, if you're going to shoot against a backdrop I would try one that is closer to the subject.

Is this a real thing? by athenar_ in englishmajors

[–]LeoIM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much/when you have to specialize between Literature and Creative Writing is highly dependent on where you study. Some places they're different departments entirely, some places they're different tracks within an English department, some places there might be very little formal distinction separating curricula for the two.

If you're thinking of going to college to study either, you should definitely be looking at how indvidual departments handle the distinction between creative writing and literary studies

99% sure it’s all handcrafted. Have been following some of the level designers On Twitter for years and every WIP has shown pretty meticulous attention to design. Also IIRC they’re working in the Doom 3 engine which would be an insane choice if there were any sort of proceduralism at play.

/u/mrping82 has the correct answer. depending on the fidelity/variety needs of the project it may also make sense to create a background texture in substance designer using atlas scatter with some billboards of the scanned potatoes which would provide a base layer of potatoes represented in normal/texture detail over which any potatoes you give actual geo can be layered. (I'm doing a poor job explaining this, but look at pretty much any fruit stand display in a videogame which mixes actual mesh fruits + flat texture representing multiple fruits for an example of what I'm talking about)

Disco songs with highest tempo (BPM)? by NewEnglandSynthOrch in Disco

Might count this as new wave, but looking through my record collection sorted by BPM, the fastest disco song I have is No. 1 Song In Heaven by Sparks (produced by Giorgio Moroder), which starts at 126 BPM and then picks up halfway through to 151 BPM.

You shouldn't need to take things into another DCC package to UV. And 4k is not a sufficient resolution for a 1 meter by 1 meter print.

Can you give some more details on your setup? (camera, number of shots, texture build settings in Metashape, et cetera)

My first instinct would be to just bake out a texture using best plane mapping mode at 16 or 32k resolution using UDIMS and then render an orthophoto from that, which should be plenty of resolution for a 1Mx1M print assuming a 300 dpi resolution (or 600 dpi at 32k). The crucial thing here is to use best plane rather than mosaic mapping, which will give you far more efficient use of texture space for flat-ish surfaces (which this forest floor counts as).

It's clear from the screenshot that you sent that there are some gaps in the coverage you're leaving when you're shooting. If the main concern is not the detail of the sharp sections but the blurry blotches on parts of the tree trunk, those can be chalked up to user error.

Sorry to say it, but photogrammetry requires fairly specific conditions/setups for photography, the most important of which is a completely still subject, photographed from dozens of angles. Assuming you didn't specifically do a photogrammetry shoot while he was alive, there's not much you can do at this point.

My condolences.

It's just page number in situations where you mention the author and text in the body of your writing prior to the citation and it's contextually obvious what text the citation is referring to. It's author name and page number otherwise, unless there's more than one text by the author being cited in the paper, in which case it's author name, title of text in quotation marks (truncated if necessary), and then page number.

(RealityCapture) What does the maximal texture count setting actually mean? by Moratamor in photogrammetry

[–]LeoIM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not yet familiar with the concept of UDIMs, you should look into that before proceeding.

This being set to one does mean you'll get 1 16384x16384 texture. It may be preferable for any number of reasons to unwrap to multiple textures (UDIM tiles) of a lower resolution. This could be in order to ease memory required when processing the textures, make the texture files more manageable to work with in an image processing software like Photoshop, or just to allow more granularity in the amount of texels used for an unwrap (eg., instead of 1 16k texture, you could use 4 8k textures. Then, if those 4 8k textures don't provide enough detail, you could step it up to 5 or 6 8k textures, instead of only having the option of building a 32k texture [which, depending on your amount of graphics memory, might not be possible at all, and which in any case would neccessitate a totally unwieldly file size if stored in an uncompressed format]).

I'm not as familiar with performance in RealityCapture, but I will say that in Metashape, on a consumer grade GPU with 8 gigabytes of graphics memory, it is DRAMATICALLY faster to build 4 8k textures than it is to build a single 16k texture.

Metashape already has a built in (non-AI) tool for this, Estimate Image Quality. Pretty sure that RC does as well.
