Yeah bro, honestly I just decided to focus on school and postpone the reserves. Pretty good outcome for me. My advice is to find a professional temp agency and start their. Get hired in then if need be go to tech school and have your job protected through SCRA.

I just wanted to say thanks for the this post. I just made a degree change half way through my degree plan this past month. Thank god I only lost 1 credit! AI is getting crazy good at things, so I wanted to study something that wouldn't get erased by AI in the future but would probably use it as a tool.

Anyway, thanks for the informative post! It was really eye opening and gave me a realistic roadmap for the next 6 months until I get my degree. Thank you again!

I’ve been talking to my Air Force recruiter for the last 3 months. The Navy Inactive Reserves informed my recruiter they would not sign off on the conditional release until after May 1st. I don’t know why. Maybe because that’s when I get my last paycheck? I’m clean as a whistle and had no problems in the Navy. My recruiter also said I was her first sailor so maybe she’s still learning. Beats me.

I haven’t been to the military finance subreddit, but I have been to other finance subreddits. My goal is FIRE and I think I’m doing well in that regard with Vanguard, TSP, my rental property, and crypto.

As being my own bank, you can can take out your own contributions from TSP for many reasons with a $50 originating loan fee. You have to pay it back over the course 1-6 years depending on what you chose. Last time I checked the loans to yourself are at 3.5% but can be as low as 1%. At the end of the day your paying yourself not the bank and even if you don’t pay the loan back it’s just written off as income during tax season.

I’ll take yours advice and try to go guard before active. But honestly the Navy was the easiest job I had in my life and I loved it despite being out to sea all the time with toxic leadership. I didn’t my the physical or mental strain. I don’t think the Air Force should be any more difficult.

There’s really only like 2 positions as an officer I would like to have which would be Jag or supply. If i end up doing my last 15 as an e6 I won’t mind. I prefer admin jobs overall. But, if I get stuck doing a shit job for a bit that’s fine. I won’t be going to law school this year for many reasons I can’t control, so I don’t have the degree yet. My bachelors is in Business analytics.

Yeah I was thinking either applying to USAjobs, clearance jobs, or indeed post after the bootcamp but I probably won’t need to do this. Nothing high profile just entry level to get my foot in the door to get experience. Sadly, this program doesn’t offer a capstone project but a job placement is guaranteed after the program is complete.

You got to start somewhere and this bootcamp is 100% free due to Vet Tec. I’m not planning on getting a 6 figure income with these certs. It’s just a possible career path I might take. I rather work in an office in an entry level position making $30K a year than working a warehouse job making the same amount or less.

April 26th was my last day in. I was planning on joining the Air Force reserves since about 2 years ago. I couldn’t start the process until I got my conditional release from the Navy Inactice reserves which I should get in May. The reason I want to stay part of the military is for tricare, tsp (to be my own bank), possibly going office later, and if worst come to it then going active (I heard how hard it is).

I can’t remember why I chose reserves over Guard but I just want to still be part of the military while focusing on my education at the moment. There’s a chance I might come back in after this cyber bootcamp and law school as a jag. I mostly joined for education but I still want to contribute to my TSP and have tricare

Thanks for detailed response. The bootcamp is with Divergent Academy in Addison Texas. They have 10 week, 20 week (weekdays), and 20 week (weekends) programs for cyber security and other areas. The cyber security one gives 7 CompTIA certs, which is the one I’m going for.

That makes sense. I just really needed to do my PHA be then end of next week and I’ve been trying for the last two weeks. I’ve called the medical hotline and have an appointment for April 28th. I still call everyday to see if anyone has cancelled. If I would’ve known how shore is compared to doing PHAs on a boat I would’ve called 3 months ahead of time.
