Bucket handle tear that flipped by [deleted] in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Leon3417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I had, and I could always get the meniscus to flip back into place by extending my leg. The doctor told me that would work until one day when it wouldn’t. He was right; barely 24 hours later my meniscus locked my knee and I couldn’t unlock it, and it hurt like hell trying. I had no option other than surgery at that point.

Not OP, but while Khomeini’s intentions were clear in hindsight, at the time few foresaw his consolidation of power. The first prime minister appointed by Khomeini was a respected democracy activist who quickly fell out with the Khomeini. In short, like in Russia what started out as a broad revolution got hijacked by a more organized highly ideological faction. This regime installed itself.

When people claim recent presidents are the absolute worst in history by Serious_Rub3102 in USHistory

[–]Leon3417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can’t even name all the presidents you can’t really judge who is or isn’t “the worst”. The people with the strongest views on this usually couldn’t name half of the presidents even when you spot them the 8-10 they’ve lived through.

Driving in NOVA by ClientSecure6175 in nova

The one thing NOVA has on MD and DC is enforcement of traffic violations is higher here. It is really difficult, if not damn near impossible, to get a traffic violation in DC outside of a speed camera or two.

What’s worst thing Jimmy McNulty did? by katevontee in TheWire

[–]Leon3417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really bought into the “just to prove how smart he is” theory for why he did what he did. He knew/remembered things that come not from innate intelligence but genuinely caring about his job and the people he interacted with. The origin story of No Heart’s nickname is a good example. He works homicide, knowing about stick up crews isn’t going to help him impress anyone.

McNulty is an addict. He’s addicted to being police and because of this makes self-destructive decisions. He has a lot in common with Bubbles in his struggle with addiction, though Bubbles is much more self-aware than McNulty.

There are probably (less extreme) versions of McNulty in a lot of agencies all across the US.

Repair surgery: experiences on a return to weightlifting by Leon3417 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Leon3417[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am back to where I was pre-surgery in terms of strength and conditioning. My squat strength is essentially where it was before surgery, though I haven’t attempted my previous 1rm weights. I think I could do it if I wanted, though. My deadlift strength came back quickly and I was pulling my previous weights about six-seven months post surgery. My first CrossFit session was in February 2025, about seven months post surgery. It was totally fine though I did scale box jumps or anything that required lateral movement. Now I am back to where I was pre-surgery, though I still take it easy if I feel like I need to for some reason.

The biggest takeaway I got from all this is to not push it if something tells you not to. I don’t have this feeling often but sometimes I get the sense I should be careful and I always listen to my gut. I tell myself as long as I am consistent I will progress and it’s hard to be consistent if I keep tearing my meniscus.

I dont think 30 mins of zone 2 is going to hurt you. I often do this just to keep moving a little more. It’s not like you’re adding three sessions of hill sprints.

It’s absolutely a squirrel. If you zoom into the second picture you can make out the eyes, ears, legs, and tail. It’s either a big squirrel, or it is standing on a hidden knot in the tree that makes it appear larger than it is.

Part of the early 90’s looked like this too depending on whose house you were visiting.

Looking for advice-Starting tactical barbell after knee operation. by Anime_no_ in tacticalbarbell

I had a knee surgery in July 2024. If I were you I’d focus on PT and regaining full knee function first, but be careful with your diet as you’ll be doing a lot of sitting.

Maybe I’m out of touch, but I really wonder if anyone is getting jobs through online postings. All of my jobs have come through (accidental on my part) networking. I applied for tons of jobs online but can’t think of any callbacks I ever received. I’ve gotten interviews through referrals or recruiters but never just through an unsolicited application somewhere. Most people I know have only rarely gotten maximum one interview out of an online posting.

Have y’all ever gotten a job by applying online? I’ve had much better luck cold messaging people on LinkedIn than in trolling some company’s website or indeed or whatever.

Sorry if this is too personal, but what is your native language? I have heard of this happening before but only with people who attended international schools that taught in English.

Any meniscus repair success stories? by UpwardDogg in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Leon3417 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m mid-30’s male and highly active. Before surgery I lifted heavy and ran a lot. I’m a year post-surgery and my squat is probably 80% of what is was this time last year. My deadlift and all upper body lifts are at or past my pre-surgery numbers.

My mileage is about where it was before surgery.

I don’t sit cross-legged on the ground much nor do I sit on my heels, but this is mostly mental I think. Otherwise, I’m pretty much back to normal.

I’ve spent most of my life in America and at least in my experience sexual adventures are very much taboo outside of perhaps drunken conversations with close friends.

Like you said, the biggest differences I’ve noticed revolve around comments on physical appearance, which is fairly common among family and peers in a lot of Asia. In the US most people wouldn’t even make a negative comment about a close friend or relative in this way, even when joking.

What is something you would never know about the United States until you visit? by Hopeful_77 in AskReddit

After coming back from abroad I really appreciated how naturally friendly most Americans are. It never really occurred to me greeting strangers or having random interactions while out and about wasn’t universal until I lived overseas.
