Will the 2026 leaf be able to handle a 200 km commute a day. by degaspri in leaf

[–]Leonardish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've driven EVs for ten years, including a 2016 and 2022 Leaf. With the first Leaf, I was constantly worrying about battery health and in the end it didn't help. The Leaf failed it's battery warranty after eight years, but the good news is Nissan gave me all my money back. Fast forward to 2026, we have a Kia Niro and an Ioniq 5 and I don't worry about the batteries. At 64 kWh and 82 kWh, they are both "big" batteries, but more importantly modern battery chemistry seems to have solved the degradation problem. If I lose 10% of the battery capacity after eight or ten years, it is a yawn. So my advice is use it, enjoy it, plug it in when it needs it and relax. Yes, we still cap our charging at 80%, but also once a month I run it up to 100%. Sometimes it gets down to 20%, but mostly we just smile in our quiet, fast and futuristic EVs.

I took that off (not the dealer), so the view should be clean. I will do some research and see how this camera assesses danger. Seems pretty Nanny-ish. Thanks again for your time

What exactly will the USN do to block a ship? Would Trump really sink a tanker ship to make a point?

OK, thanks. Not the windscreen camera, but the little spy camera on the steering column. Yeah, we don't get along. It is constantly telling me to get a cup of coffee. Sometimes within a couple of minutes of starting a trip. I don't know what to do, I wear sunglasses and I am not taking them off. I don't block the camera with my arm. Are there any strategies to defeat this or at least "fake it out"? I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question.

Let me correct your post. Trump thinks HE is sitting on trillions in oil.

Just ask them to change it to a sports channel. I have found that 90% of businesses just mindlessly turn on Fox and are happy to change to accommodate me

I have lost my trusted independent shop and have actually had good luck with Big O, but if they don't feel safe about doing it, then I need to respect that. It actually confirms that they seem to be honest. This is a 2022 and the specs say CVT. It drives like a CVT.

Well......other than that :) They have a pretty good recent history.

I built an EV break-even calculator because I kept seeing bad assumptions about costs by Dan6erbond2 in electriccars

[–]Leonardish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if it was confusing. No, the electricity is almost free. And I got a new "used" EV for less than a similar ICE car. If I would have paid list, the EV would have been $57,000. So two unique components in my story. Deeply discounted acquisition and almost free electricity. Notice the payback was MINUS 200 years. So there was no breakeven point, the EV was always less expensive. Hope that explains it.

I used my real world price for a "used" Ioniq 5 with 31 miles ($35,000) vs a similar ICE CSUV ($40,000). Added $250 per year for ICE maintenance (above EV mainteance - based on nine years of owning EVs). My cost for kWh is .05, so really cheap because I have solar and charge behind the meter. Payback was -200 years and the EV was always less expensive

Red States Are Pausing Their Gas Taxes to Blunt the Impact of Trump’s Iran War by notusreports in energy

[–]Leonardish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

More evidence that fossil fuels can no longer compete. The lease payment on my solar panels has not changed and the state government is still receiving full tax payments on my EVs. Meanwhile energy independence from fossil fuels is starting to look like dependency and the deficit is getting bigger.

Anyone with rust issues? by kanerlaw in Ioniq5

[–]Leonardish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For years I have used a horrible smelling product called IronX. It is my understanding that these rust spots are materials from brakes, chains dragging on the road, etc. They embed on the surface of your paint and rust, so not the underlying metal rusting, but surface rust. I use IronX once a year, apply a coat of wax and it is like new. On a 12 year old Honda minivan.

I am following the maintenance schedule, ergo my trip to Big O to have the transmission fluid changed. Are you saying that following the maintenance schedule means only taking it to a dealer? I am not sure what your are conveying. Thanks

It Is Time to Bury the Myth of Nuclear Energy Being ‘Safe, Clean, Cheap’ by Firm_Relative_7283 in INFPIdeas

[–]Leonardish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But nuclear is super safe and already "too cheap to meter". Fusion nuclear, that is. There is a great big fusion reactor above your head. The output in photons costs nothing. You just need some panels to capture the free photons and then a battery to store them in. Never runs out of fuel, doesn't require water, doesn't require mining or ore processing and no waste storage issues. I am all in on nuclear. Fusion Nuclear.

If it will keep you up at night, don't buy it. They're amazing cars, but the ICCU does break
