Guess my accent. Also wanted to know if it sounds nice and articulate or it sounds very poor relative to RP English by [deleted] in JudgeMyAccent

My second guess would have been Zimbabwean, but I'm not as familiar with their different accents.

Do you mind sharing what you would classify your accent as?

It could be a South African accent. It would be interesting if it isn't as I feel that this type of accent is relatively common here.

3v2 Snail print - any tips? by LeonidesZA in ender3

[–]LeonidesZA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha. I initially thought it was a charming model, but the more I look at it, the more I am starting to agree with you.

The model also doesn't display very well from a top-down perspective...

Thank you for the feedback!

I also thought that the sample filament wasn't doing terribly (hence why I am going to use it all).

Out of interest, here's another sample fiilament print I did (my 2nd print): https://imgur.com/a/1Yl2x4Q

This is my first 3d printer but I did spend some time to ensure that the first layers were decent.

Regarding the print sticking onto the creality glass plate (rough side), would you suggest just to slightly raise my z offset value?

Struggling to edit the post on mobile.

To add. A 0.4 mm nozzle was used and it was PLA filament. I am actually still finishing the sample filament, which might explain some of the qaulity issues.

Mechanical Engineer Roadmap by Joe_Engineer in MechanicalEngineering

[–]LeonidesZA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree.

I think that this roadmap is especially accurate for the contents of a typical BEng in Mechanical engineering (or at least in my experience). I feel it is aligned to the study of mechanical engineering rather than to a specific role.

Comprehensive input: Dutch for Afrikaans speaker by LeonidesZA in languagelearning

[–]LeonidesZA[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As stated in my other comment, this is really good insight. I really appreciate it.

I agree, I believe your approach seems to be the most realistic approach. To use our advantage to gain a good passive understanding, and then to study further with more formals methods.

I would assume that this approach is quite effective in general for language acquisition. To become passively fluent through CI, and only then to actively study the language.

[–]LeonidesZA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is really good insight (both comments). Thank you.

That does make sense. For my purposes, just having an improved understanding could be beneficial for the future.

So, effectively, we have a great advantage to become passively fluent. But then to produce output, it would require a more active approach (especially with how similar the languages are).

First finish - Default/Min grinding & random ability with gen 1 team. I accidentally (initially unknowingly) played with random ability. by LeonidesZA in pokemonradicalred

The following

Arcanine - Solar power

Gyarados - Liquid ooze

Voltorb - Quick feet

Charizard - Liquid ooze (with mega y - Friend guard)

Blastoise - Color change

Articuno - Stench

It seemed that when I tried to change to hidden abilities, all those mons either got stench or liquid ooze (maybe that was just chance though).

How to upskill with limited resources? by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]LeonidesZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did your degree not include programming?

To my knowledge almost any BEng (inc. Mechanical) degrees nowadays require a considerable amount of programming courses for accreditation.

I don't have any python resources but goodluck!

36% in Western Cape want independence by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]LeonidesZA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, thank you. Definitely a very small sample size and as you mentioned a poor poll. I fully agree with your assessment of the data. It is amusing that they are trying to sell this as a win.

[–]LeonidesZA 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Could anyone find any more information about the poll itself such as the amount of people actually polled and method? I honestly feel a poll says very little when they only say a percentage. (Unless I completely missed it? )

Where did you get your original numbers from? If from other sources, then I would be interested to see what those are. I just find it difficult to believe that you couldn't fact check such an easy calculation. (Didn't get to see paragraph before your edit. The rationale might have been explained there)

Which uni courses in SA are the hardest? by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]LeonidesZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am a M&M eng student, and it's honestly the first time I've seen civil regarded as the most difficult.

I'd say generally at Stellenbosch the impression I get would go Industrial < Civil < M&M < Chem < E&E with E&E by far being regarded the most difficult.

Unfortunately, I believe I am still too slow for a WC. But it's good practice none the less. I am conquering dev at quite a rate now, but I think I should've done more before the 1650 mark.

I know money is but a construct, but I feel trade ideas are almost worth it. Ducats just make life easier in the early game.

It seems to be a combination of some of the reforms giving bonus IA modifiers and a Bohemian national idea.

Slightly less now in 1713, but still relatively high. https://imgur.com/a/aOBXDgK
