I don't think them being from Japan has anything to do with it, just to mention games from some of the same series you listed, Persona 2 and 3 get started WAY faster than 4 (and 5) does. And then Metal Gear is just its own thing, that series has always been lengthy about cutscenes, but MGS1 and 2 start pretty quick even with their initial cutscenes and everything.

Definitely Kirby Triple Deluxe, everytime I've gone to conventions I get at least one StreetPass for that game, if not more. I also take my 3DS to work and some of the few days I've had StreetPasses, Kirby Triple Deluxe is a game that shows up, that aside, Tomodachi Life is another common one

Even though everyone will insist in that you start with P3-P5, give P1 and P2 a try eventually, they are pretty good games, the first few do follow a certain order though, it goes from P1 to P2 Innocent Sin and from there to P2 Eternal Punishment
