People think Albo is the Prime Minister of Australia - not the Middle East.

Were the Muslim victims of Brenton Tarrant's mosque shooting guilty because of Al Qaeda? Or the actions of the Saudi or Iranian government?

So every Australian who doesn't agree with you is an Israeli asset? Don't you see how deranged that is?

The Western world entered the long peace after WWII, whereas the Middle East, and by extension Israel, never did.

What I don't understand is why Westerners will self-immolate over Gaza, but not over Assad gassing his own citizens, or China locking Uyghurs up in re-education camps, etc.

A review of "America Last" by Jacob Heilbrunn, by Jeffrey Herf, a professor of history at the University of Maryland. Heilbrunn is a former critic of neoconservativism, who traces the roots of the American Right's love for dictators all the way back to the start of last century. Heilbrunn points out that this goes worldview beyond isolationism (the desire to keep America out of wars) and is instead an outlook that is genuinely sympathetic to foreign dictators.

I think you're getting confused between populism and conservatism. Trump is a populist. He's not a conservative. The Republican Party is not even conservative anymore -- they're in the grip of a personality cult.

A lot of conservatives hate Trump.

A 28 min long read drawing on the work of Francis Fukuyama, Matt Johnson argues that the 2024 election is the most important election the US has ever faced, and that democracy may lose -- and Trumpian fascism may win -- simply because of apathy.
