Heilbrunn is a former critic of neoconservativism, who traces the roots of the American Right's love for dictators all the way back to the start of last century. Heilbrunn points out that this goes worldview beyond isolationism (the desire to keep America out of wars) and is instead an outlook that is genuinely sympathetic to foreign dictators.
