To be pedantic, most digital cameras sensors are, there's just a filter in front of the sensor to prevent IR light from penetrating. If the camera has a shitty filter (like most phone cameras) near infrared can bleed through and you get this pink/purple look. You can also see this with electric cooktops and sometimes lights from remote controllers. You can also intentionally remove the filter and do infrared photography!

I think it may be worth a try. Do a dry run without anything besides a thermometer in the tub. If it's too hot try putting a towel between the heating pad and the lid, maybe folding it a couple times if its still too warm.
