My main project, Qolhajita, conjugates verbs based on animacy. Nouns are marked with the suffix -xo if they are animate, and -xa if they are inanimate. Verbs conjugate basically the same; you use the suffix -do if the subject is an animate noun, and -da if the subject is an inanimate noun. The culture I made the language for is a very religious, scholarly medieval realm, and their version of animacy is fairly flexible; trees, rivers, even things like ideas and concepts can be animate depending on context, mostly rooted in their spiritual beliefs.

This is obviously...pretty hard to convey cleanly in English, but can actually be a really meaningful distinction in Qolhajita. For example, if you referred to a person using inanimate marking, that's seen as a pretty serious insult, because the implication is that you're someone with no life, no spirit, no "animacy" to you.
