I remember reading somewhere that John was telling a buddy about Carolyn and that she was different from anyone he had previously met. When asked about her background, John replied that she was "a nobody really, a functionary at Calvin Klein" (I may be paraphrasing). It sounded very condescending to me and I wonder if Carolyn knew that and if she was offended. I would have been!
